mHUB seeks an Executive Director to build and manage an exciting new accelerator focused on commercializing novel medical devices. This unique, hands-on accelerator will identify high-growth startups from across the country that are developing demand-driven medical devices that align with participating strategic healthcare industry partners. The program capitalizes on the vast resources, manufacturing community, supplier, investor, and industry networks of mHUB, the nation’s leading hardtech innovation center. mHUB and the participating industry partners will invest nearly $1M in cash and $550K in engineering, design, and fabrication resources to support 8 to 10 of the most promising startups transforming patient care.

The Executive Director will serve as the leader of the accelerator working to establish and run the premier cohort of this six-month, hands-on accelerator. The Executive Director will be responsible for both the sourcing of teams as well as the day-to-day operational execution of the program. The Executive Director position is a full-time, 16-month contract position that reports to the Managing Director.

Description of Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Executive Director consist of the following:

  • Provide compelling and credible leadership to successfully shape and execute the strategic direction of the accelerator program
  • Maintain alignment with mHUB’s overall strategy and mission
  • Manage engagement with program funders/corporate partners
  • Design and manage tailored curation of programmatic content including curriculum, speakers, industry mentors and events
  • Identify, solicit and manage industry mentors to support startups through crucial steps of incubation
  • Establish relationships with other industry resources as appropriate to support teams
  • Support development of national innovation network to drive program awareness
  • Support the planning, marketing and hosting of virtual and local market events to drive top startup awareness and application submissions
  • Source, recruit and lead selection decisions for all startups applying to cohorts
  • Serve as the main POC for startup founders and corporate partners during the term of the cohort
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for startups within investment portfolio
  • Identify and share best practices with mHUB operational team for areas for improvement
  • Develop systems and processes for regular updates to the Product Impact Fund leadership team
  • Lead the advising and supporting of startup teams on key product development and business decisions
  • Support development of investor pipeline and link cohort participants with potential funders
  • Grow and strengthen innovation network to share best practices
  • Represent mHUB in local community both actively and passively

Qualifications

Candidates interested in applying should meet the following qualifications:

  • 7-10 years of healthcare experience and 5+ years of leadership experience in fast paced entrepreneurial environments specifically with medical device startups, accelerators, or health-related venture capital
  • The candidate must have a bachelors or master’s degree with a preference for business, entrepreneurship, engineering, economics, and/or a related healthcare field with innovation focus preferred
  • Working experience in medical device commercialization or consulting required
  • Strong healthcare industry network and ability to mobilize as appropriate
  • Coaching mindset approach to supporting others as they build great companies with a proven track record of managing a device startup or project team
  • Experience participating in, or working with, a healthcare startup accelerator program preferred
  • Expertise in term sheets, negotiations and fundraising
  • Comfortable with minimal direction, high autonomy and aggressive growth targets
  • Ability to lead a room, public speaking and group mentoring is critical
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks conforming to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
  • Strong network of innovation partners across the country
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • A high degree of responsibility, initiative, and professionalism
  • Willingness to travel when necessary

Salary and Duration

Salary is commensurate with experience. The 16-month contracted position will provide compensation in the form of salary and carried interest. Competitive benefits package.
