Summary of Responsibilities:
The Food Safety Program Manager is responsible for providing proactive leadership and instruction in the area of Food Safety across the Home Chef operating network. This position is responsible for mitigating food safety risk by helping to develop internal policies and procedures, working with in-plant resources to ensure proper implementation and training, and auditing for compliance. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

  • Developing and executing written food safety and sanitation policies, procedures and training
  • Conduct routine internal audits of all Home Chef production plants to ensure compliance to the Corporate Food Safety program
  • Executing HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) plan and prerequisite programs (sanitation, pest control, environmental testing, GMPs, etc.)
  • Working with production facilities to conduct root cause analysis and developing action plans for food safety non-conformances and customer complaints
  • Tracking completion of action plans for regulatory and internal inspection non-conformances
  • Partner with current and future suppliers and supply chain team to ensure adherence to approved supplier program
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 30% of the time
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Associate’s degree in food science, food technology, microbiology or related field. Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree (Food Science, Animal Science, Biological Science or related)
  • In lieu of an Associate’s Degree, a combination of education and experience may be considered, provided that the candidate has demonstrated technical proficiency in the areas of food safety, food microbiology, food chemistry, animal science, biology, food defense, bacteriology, food processing technologies, and/or food regulations & policy
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in quality assurance, food safety, food distribution, food manufacturing, supply chain, or related field
  • HACCP certification preferred
  • SQF Practitioner certification preferred
  • Understanding of Food Safety regulations, laws, and best practices including those from FDA, USDA, and other state and local entities
  • Basic knowledge of food microbiology, food safety, and food defense
  • Previous experience with GFSI, SQF and USDA audits
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter who is results-oriented, resourceful, and takes initiative
  • Capable of handling multiple responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to embrace change and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
