The Product Support & Logistics Division currently has an opening for a General Manager of Logistics. In this role you will develop and implement logistics strategies which deliver OPACC (Operating Profit After Capital Charge) across Caterpillar business verticals. You will provide leadership across the range of capabilities offered by Integrated Logistics through deep engagement with the business units and product groups with the purpose of ensuring the appropriate solutions are deployed to maximize value creation. You will lead the development of technical and system solutions supporting delivery of scale based services which offer best-in-class performance and cost efficiency. You will drive change ensuring new solutions are rapidly adopted where incremental value is available for the business units.  

 

 

JOB DUTIES: 

 

This is a senior level General Manager in Logistics providing strategic direction and leadership to guide engagement and deployment of logistics services across Caterpillar business units globally.

 

Critical to this role is developing a clear understanding of the needs of the product groups and business units to ensure that optimal coverage of those needs are achieved.  Key areas addressed include value creation, performance and cost efficiency in executing the services offered to the Caterpillar business verticals.  The role is highly focused on expanding coverage to ensure the full benefit of Integrated Logistics capabilities is available to support and enable profitable growth across the company.  Relationship engagement will occur at the Product Manager, Facility Manager and Vice President level across all Caterpillar businesses.  This role will also have a strong linkage to the Procurement and Supply Chain organizations.  

 

Included in this role is the development of warehouse management systems used by Integrated Logistics, deployment of Logistics Engineering services and leadership of the account engagement managers.  This role also leads in development and execution of departmental governance processes including metrics, scorecards in conjunction with Business Resources.  Further, the role leads an analytical organization providing support to the global team.  

 

A critical function of this role is the development and understanding of opportunities to grow the coverage of Logistics services across the company.  This role has primary responsibility for aligning support of business unit needs and ensuring satisfaction in the execution of the delivery.  This work includes ensuring common goal agreements are established and performance standards are met including financial targets.  This leader will need to work collaboratively with Logistics capability leaders to develop new opportunities.

 

This role serves as a member of various Logistics Steering or Strategic Groups and Teams.  In addition, this position provides direction, focus, motivation, and encouragement for subordinates and is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.

 

Employee may also be responsible for performing other job duties occasionally as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible job-related experience in logistics and manufacturing operations environment 
  • 7+ years of leadership experience
  • Previous experience including customer/client commercial relationship management, product development or managing large scale projects

 

 

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Demonstrated success leading teams to deliver complex goals and projects and / or demonstrated success growing and executing logistics capabilities and /or leading and inspiring teams across multiple regions
  • Additional background experience pertaining to inventory management and control, purchasing, and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions

 

 

The position is required to travel frequently up to 50% of the time.
