Job Purpose:
This role is a manager of 7-10 global team members with responsibility for support and development of complex systems that relate to personal computer technologies within the Desktop Engineering fleet of ~100,000 endpoints.
Description:
The Global End User Computing IT Manager primary responsibilities include: 1. Managing team that provides solution development of software and hardware installed on endpoints. 2. Ensure the efficient and effective delivery of managed services for the Desktop Engineering scope. 3. Accountable for global Threat and Vulnerability Management (TVM) on end user devices.
This IT Manager must:

  • Directs the work effort of professional and technical employees and contracted resources that provide consulting services that design, develop, implement, and maintain end user desktop applications and operating systems.
  • Delivers efficient use of available Information Technology and must be aware of IT trends to develop compatible systems, including the membership and/or participation on industry organizations.
  • Utilizes group standards, practices, and processes; establishes, manages, and reports adherence to schedules and may contribute to resolution of complex problems and systems challenges that involve careful interpretation, analysis, and diagnosis.
  • Considers interrelationships of the functional areas involved, assures timely communications among related areas to support the creation of effective, reliable systems to meet changing business needs of multiple customers and corporate requirements.
  • Ability to create and make clear and useful presentations based on ideas, issues, and observations.
  • One key role for the incumbent is that of change agent related to complex components impacting worldwide customers. Partner with department communications and customer experience teams to best manage change and expectations of end users.
  • Have a sense of urgency to manage user issues and proven problem-solving capabilities.
  • Primary provider of communications to staff, helps manage the technical training and development of staff, assists in career development planning including responsibility for the motivation of staff to meet objectives, formal performance evaluation of staff and is accountable for accomplishment of group objectives.
  • Manages a budget and contracts for Desktop Engineering solutions.


Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or related technical field or equivalent experience in IT
  • 9-12 years of experience in managing IT solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, attention to detail and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills are required and the ability to listen to others is important to this position
  • Technical and managerial experience with broad background in systems hardware, software, support and development methodologies, business planning, project management, and customer experience.


Top Candidate Will Also Have:

  • Experience with various desktop solutions such as Citrix, Virtual Desktop, Remote Desktop, and browsers
  • Previous supervisory experience of technical staff and external providers
  • Caterpillar technical and managerial experience (stated above)
  • Understanding of the Caterpillar organization
