Head of Global Infrastructure
About the Role
The Head of Global Infrastructure will be responsible for sponsoring, driving and delivering Infrastructure transformation programs and will be accountable for the strategy, management, reliability and performance of Morningstar's Global IT infrastructure. The successful candidate will lead a team of IT infrastructure managers and engineers and will collaborate with the IT project management, product, security, IT operations and regional infrastructure and support teams to deliver projects as part of the technology organization's objectives of sustainable cost efficiency, improvement, and optimization of the IT portfolio as part of the company's overall technology strategy.
The Head of Global Infrastructure brings current knowledge and future vision for transforming this function including its strategy, service offerings and workforce. The role holder has large scale, global industry experience and is a senior stakeholder and holds key relationships with externally sourced strategic partners.
This is the highest role in the infrastructure function within IT. As a key member of the senior IT leadership team this role contributes to the development and execution of the enterprise wide IT strategy and is responsible for ensuring the Infrastructure strategy is fully aligned, positioning the team to deliver compelling business value.
Job Responsibilities• Sets the mission, vision, and strategy of the global infrastructure organization to maximize the success of business and IT enterprise initiatives with high quality, flexible, and scalable solutions.• Introduces innovative, differentiating infrastructure capabilities that enhance our overall competitive capabilities and enhance employee productivity.• Works with the IT senior leadership team on the service portfolio and governance required to prioritize resources, including budget.• Builds successful stakeholder relationships with other IT and business leaders by developing a clear understanding of business needs, acting as a trusted advisor, and ensuring cost-effective delivery of IT services to meet those needs.• Creates and aligns a value map by linking targeted business outcomes with the future-state business capabilities required to achieve them.• Develops and controls the annual infrastructure budget to ensure that it's consistent with the overall strategic objectives of IT and the enterprise and is within plan and develops solid business cases including financial modelling and planning.• Collaborates with the CISO and security team to ensure Infrastructure embraces and applies security strategy.• Operates a formal governance mechanism to establish and monitor effective controls for the processes and functions performed by I&O teams. Supports periodic reviews by internal audit, compliance teams and other risk-related functions as required.• Leverages influencing and negotiation skills across IT, vendor partners, and the enterprise to enable cost-effective and innovative shared solutions in the achievement of business goals Vendor selection and management.• Provides direction on what emerging technologies should be incorporated into Infrastructure products and services to successfully deliver overall IT strategy.• Champions Infrastructure involvement in the IT organization's innovation efforts and its role in experimenting with new solutions to take advantage of business opportunities.• Provides strategic direction for the full life cycle of design, development, operation and support of IT systems.• Directs the development of an Infrastructure sourcing strategy and provides executive oversight for strategic vendor and partner relationship management.• Develops the maturity of Infrastructure to improve efficiency, deliver new innovations and increase collaboration with other business areas.• Drives the adoption of (and commitment towards) service improvements.• Serves on IT planning and policymaking committees; drives the development of enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics.• Deploy and evolve Morningstar's Cloud Center of excellence, responsible for public cloud infrastructure frameworks, roadmaps and governance.• Ensure that portfolio of programs and projects are prioritized, are aligned to and deliver against Infrastructure transformation, service and risk objectives.• Works with various teams to develop and execute workforce plans that ensure Infrastructure can supply skilled resources to meet current and future demand.• Responsible for people management and mentoring, driving and retaining a positive team culture that continually encourages creativity, ownership, accountability, and enhances our capabilities to deliver solutions
Qualifications• 10-15+ years of demonstrable experience in managing technology teams accountable for complex global infrastructure.• 5 + years' experience of management of large enterprise scale infrastructures.• Ability to demonstrate leadership of change and transformation programs.• Successful and demonstrable track record of large infrastructure transformation programs, public cloud migrations, datacenter build-out, co-location, compute, storage, network and telecommunications projects in complex, dynamic environments where agile was applied at scale.• Demonstrated experience of influencing key stakeholders across the organization and within complex contexts.• Excellent leadership, communication and organization skills with a results-oriented mindset• Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to develop and communicate an Infrastructure vision that inspires and motivates staff and aligns with the IT and business strategy.• Experienced in building a productive environment enabling career growth, development, hiring and retention of a talented engineering team.• Strong analytical and problem-solving, conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills.• Ability to influence, needs to demonstrate the ability to build consensus and support for proposals.• Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.• Strong customer -service focus and orientated mindset.• Strong business acumen, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and its business units.• Interest in the investment industry and strong knowledge of technology developments and trends is an advantage.
Education
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, related field or equivalent work experience
