Thoughtworks, North America is searching for an inspirational leader in the People space (read: “HR”) who can bring a balanced approach of pragmatism and disruption to both ground our people as well as satisfy our need for rapid change, growth and inclusion. You will leverage all of the tools in your toolbox to refine and build upon processes, DE&I initiatives, policies, and benefits, all designed to preserve and strengthen our company culture. You will lead an eager team of HR professionals in creating an extraordinary employee experience by bringing a high touch, highly personalized, and highly collaborative approach and level of service across all of the typical HR processes. 

You’ll spend time on the following:

  • Lead and develop the North America People Support Team
  • Oversee all people operations processes such as payroll, benefits administration, HRIS administration, equity administration, employee relations, global mobility, leaves of absence, onboarding/offboarding, policy authoring and interpretation, reporting (internal and external/compliance driven), time and attendance, expenses, etc. 
  • Design and refine a People Support function and services that rise to the challenge of our increased complexity and rapid growth (volume, capability & diversity)
  • Manage growth, retain what works well and improve and coordinate what needs improving
  • Research and advise on people processes, projects and policies that will add value to our business and our people
  • Design policies and procedures that will help the business run with the least amount of operational friction possible
  • Uplift our cross-functional Employee Relations capability, resolve sensitive employee relations matters with a focus on developing trust while balancing confidentiality and risk
  • Investigate sensitive and escalated workplace concerns, use each case as an opportunity to improve our business practices
  • Create and continuously improve a Total Rewards Program that allows us to attract and retain a diverse population
  • Introduce and nurture a progressive Wellbeing Program that supports the needs of our unique and diverse population
  • Drive employee engagement through continuous improvement of our processes, policies and service offerings by gathering and analyzing feedback from our people
  • Ensure we have partners/vendors that support our growth, scale and customer-focused agenda
  • Co-create the Global Shared Services Model in partnership with Global Talent Support function
  • Partner with cross functional teams, such as Staffing, Mobility, Finance, Controllership and Legal
  • Run a compliant, efficient and scalable operation
  • Facilitate training programs as needed

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • You have at least 10 years of experience in progressive HR or related roles
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills; a style that is disarming and empathetic; consistently able to deliver tough messages in a way that allows your audience to hear, understand and respond productively
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion expertise
  • Solid knowledge and experience navigating employment laws 
  • Deep knowledge of benefits and total rewards programs (US required, Canada a bonus)
  • Top notch HR risk & compliance knowledge
  • Architect proactive listening forums; proven track record of building and facilitating working groups/advisory councils/ERGs that engage a diverse population to help the design and improvement people products and services; highly collaborative and ability to navigate a consensus oriented organization
  • Finance & business acumen; able to present value-based options that drive decision-making across a wide range of stakeholders; build business cases with return on investment mindset
  • Well-rounded leadership and influencing skills; hands-on, development focused team leader 
  • Expert plate-spinner and multitasker; project and program management competency; ensure that your key stakeholders are always informed on the right things
  • Continuous improvement mindset; bring compelling business process design DNA; create order from disarray
  • Demonstrated creativity in using levers to motivate a diverse workforce
  • Knowledge and application of various techniques and vehicles to engage a large range of stakeholder(s)
  • A balance of pragmatism and disruption
  • We work with the Google Suite of tools (A LOT) so one must have the skills or be really excited to learn them! Related to this, there must be a high degree of comfort with spreadsheeting and being able to analyze data effectively.
