Job Description

Job Summary

The VoIP Unified Communications Engineer of Voice Network Engineering will be responsible for guiding the implementation, maintenance, and management of the Walgreens voice infrastructure. Support the creation, modification, and enforcement of standards, security, and operations of existing and next generation voice network. Responsible for managing a team of voice network engineers/associates ensuring timely delivery of departmental and enterprise projects, staff development, process improvement, performance management, hiring and release of staff members. Develops and maintains strong relationships with other Walgreens' business units, external business partners, and supporting vendors/manufacturers.
 
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs and implements daily operational activities that impact discrete components / processes of the  Technology engineering work function, and may include responsibilities, such as:                                                                       
    • Participating in improvement and monitoring of deployment operations on pre-release, upgrades and current versions of software.                               
    • Participating in evaluating compatibility of programs with existing communications hardware and software features.                                                                    
    • Participating in development of protocols to support established standards.                                        
    • Improving operation and monitoring of standard and advanced features.                                                
    • Participating in development of processes and interface requirements.                                                       
    • Participating in data development and definition of acceptance criteria.                                                                                                            
  • Gathers and updates necessary information and communicates to appropriate parties.
  • Identifies and determines likely reasons for problematic causes. Prepares accurate documentation and communication to effectively facilitate elimination of problems / roadblocks as they occur and create efficient fixes.
  • Coordinates cross-functionally to accomplish activities. Interacts with internal and external peers and/or managers to exchange semi-complex information related to assigned activities.
  • May assist in live site support and incident resolution that may include on-call rotation.

External Basic Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 1 year of experience in a technical engineering role, such as software development, release management, deployment engineering, site operations, technical operations or similar OR High School Diploma/ GED and at least 4 years of experience in a technical engineering role, such as software development, release management, deployment engineering, site operations, technical operations or similar.
  • Experience in Technology infrastructure, such as Network, Monitoring, Systems, Databases, etc.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community and with vendors.
  • Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • At least 1-3 years of experience with a Cisco UC technologies (CUCM, CUC and CER) in addition to having plus skills in alternative area such as Cisco UCC and Virtualization, integrations with Microsoft Collaboration or automation through scripting.
  • Knowledge Cisco UC, VoIP, SIP and TDM troubleshooting techniques, traffic engineering, and experience interpreting and taking action on alert management and performance management tools.
  • Experience with the design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting and monitoring of core LAN/WAN services including VoIP protocols (ie. H.323, SIP, UDP, RTP).
  • Experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives).
  • Experience analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.
  • The ideal candidate may have knowledge or skills in the following:
    • Cisco Call Manager 10.5.x and above
    • Cisco Unity Connections Voicemail
    • Cisco Call Manager and Unity Express
    • Cisco SRST
    • Cisco Emergency Responder (CER)
  • The ideal candidate may have knowledge or skills in the following, but is not required:
    • Oracle (ACME Packet) Session Border Controllers
    • Cisco Customer Voice Portal (CVP)
    • Cisco VXML Gateway/Server (Voice XML)
    • Intelligent Contact Management (ICM)
    • Cisco Peripheral Gateways (PG)
    • Cisco Contact Center (UCCX)
    • Cisco Unified SIP Proxy (CUSP)
    • Cisco UCS, VMware and Network Storage solutions
    • Any other Cisco or other Voice technology knowledge or skills
    • Microsoft Skype/Teams integrations with Cisco voice technologies
    • Scripting Languages (Python, Perl or PowerShell)
