Kitchfix Meal Delivery—Culinary Operations associate

Chicago, IL – Full Time December 2018

ROLE:

The Kitchen Administrator will work closely with the Kitchen Manager and the kitchen staff in order to facilitate the daily production of our online meal delivery service. While this position requires a candidate with a certain amount of kitchen savvy, the Kitchen Administrator will focus more on initializing day-to-day kitchen activities by providing technological support to the KM and staff. This will include, but is not limited to, assisting in purchasing food and packaging products, creating and maintaining recipes and recipe-related documents, and interfacing between the BOH staff and Customer Service generally in order to achieve food and service of the highest quality.

REPORTS:

This position reports directly to the Director of Operations and works as a member of the chef team

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Kitchen Manager and Kitchen Staff to facilitate daily production of meal packages for delivery

    - Spearhead the creation of prep lists/booklets in order to guide the kitchen team on a daily basis

    - See the process through to completion by helping the kitchen from prep stages through delivery stages of meal production

  • Maintain recipe database and assist in further recipe writing, modification, and development as needed

  • Manage the customer-facing online menu display, including creating & launching new menus, facilitating new product creation, and building out the product database

    - Maintain up-to-date information on best-selling meals and customer preferences

  • Act as a connection point between the operations team and the kitchen to communicate customer concerns and kitchen needs

  • Place orders for food-related products, from produce and proteins, to packaging and supplies

    - Take ownership over food-related and packaging inventories
    - Maintain a high level of organization in storage areas, and assist the KM in managing kitchen inventories

  • Assist the Kitchen Manager in promoting the maintenance of a clean kitchen and kitchen equipment
    - Maintain kitchen logs, such as Time/Temp logs, and help make appropriate adjustments if/when problems arise

  • Develop and track Kitchen KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)                                                                                   - Analyze data gained from these and use it to strategize or modify kitchen behaviors                                                - - Assist in keeping down the COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) via modes of purchasing, staffing, and technological support to the kitchen

• Assist the KM with personnel management, to include scheduling, onboarding, and general management of kitchen staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-2 years Professional Kitchen experience
    - Culinary Degree Preferred
    - ServSafe Manager Certificate preferred; ServSafe Food Handlers Certificate required

  • Experience with forging and maintaining vendor relationships

  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)

  • Familiarity with online ordering and cost control softwares

  • Experience working within a budget

    - Familiarized with the concept of COGS, and the ways in which it is affected by food and labor costs

  • Ability to read, understand, and eventually troubleshoot detailed recipes

  • Must have a personal affinity for timeliness, cleanliness, organization, and efficiency, and a willingness to help foster these qualities in the rest of our kitchen staff

  • Strong sense of compassion and a willingness to teach those of various backgrounds

  • Good at working with others and generally embraces a team-centric approach to tackling large projects and problem-solving
    - Specifically embraces technology as a method for problem solving

  • Spanish-speaking/fluent preferred
