The Network Engineer II is expected to have a broad level of knowledge of network domain technologies, platforms, and principles, including route/switch protocols, LAN/WAN, wireless networking, datacenter, high-availability design, Application Delivery Controller, Web Application Firewall, Domain Name Service and IP management, Data Visibility Fabric, Content Delivery Network, Data Analytics, WAN optimization, Network Time Protocol, and Network Monitoring. A Mid-Level Network Engineer will preferably have experience with one or more network automation tools and/or programming languages. They lead, facilitates, and assists senior engineers with developing strategic architecture for next-generation network services and emerging transport methods. Makes well thought out decisions on moderate-to-complex network engineering issues. Engineers, develops, and tests infrastructure. The individual will also be responsible for assisting in the definition of monitoring and trending scenarios for the operational teams to increase efficiencies. Will assist in driving complex modifications and/or upgrades to existing network infrastructure in support of evolving enterprise requirements. Is vigilant on unit cost reduction and cost containment. Propagates common goals, direction, and standards established by more Senior Engineers. Acts as a source of direction, training, and guidance for less experienced team members. Monitors project schedules and unit/total costs. Provides escalation support as required. Must be able to communicate effectively with both management and technical staff. Must have strong problem solving skills under minimal direction. Typically requires 6 to 8 years of hands-on network experience.
Responsibilities
- Designs and engineers platforms into production enterprise infrastructure. Runs small-to-medium enterprise infrastructure projects from requirements gathering to post implementation. Proactively and methodically improves quality and efficiency through automation of network services. Serves as the principle design and often implementation engineer for most enterprise network projects and/or small work efforts. Under guidance of senior engineering, will gather business and network requirements and operational data from one or more sources to formulate solutions of moderate-to-significant complexity. Can be responsible for identifying various technical alternatives and developing implementation plans. Performs lab research and proof of concept work as appropriate for the role and/or technical task.
- Proactively and methodically improves quality and efficiency through automation of network services.
- Business Relationship/Vendor Management. Stays abreast of current vendors and products, anticipates change, and has a plan in place to react to the change.
- Cost containment/Cost reduction. Understands basic financials and the costs associated with delivering technology solutions and subsequently engineer solutions that align with a financial business model.
Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, technical field, or related field
- 4+ years of experience in Cisco Nexus Datacenter Concepts/Platforms, including 2k, 5k, 7k, and 9k. Strong experience with application content delivery technologies such as F5 (LTM/GTM) and Citrix NetScaler Experience with QoS operation and configuration. Independent and proficient working knowledge and experience with routing protocols OSPF, BGP, etc. Independent and proficient working knowledge and experience with Spanning-Tree, HSRP, VRRP, and tunneling protocols. Independent and proficient working knowledge with network applications such DNS, DHCP, and NTP. Fundamental knowledge and experience with virtualized compute environments, i.e., Hypervisor, UCS, ESX. Experience in the following Datacenter technologies: FEX, VDC, VPC, Fabric-Path, VRF, OTV, LISP, and VXLAN. Ensures compliance with change control processes and adherence to standards. Experience with managing moderate-to-complex network projects (planning, organizing, and managing timelines/objectives). Strong verbal, written, and documentation skills.
