Level: Mid-Senior

Position: Full-time

Location: West Loop, Chicago, IL

Reports to: Director of Application Engineering and CEO

What we’re looking for:

Fast Radius collaborates with leading global corporations to drive the adoption of additive technology.  A team of application engineers works hand-in-hand with client teams to identify and launch additive applications.  An experienced engineering manager is needed to lead the application engineering team ensuring projects are completed on-time and in an efficient manner.  These projects typically involve mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, and product design. In addition, these activities are often times driven by taking physical products from concept to market. The Manager of Application Engineering will work with our clients throughout the product development and execution life cycle, including: concept development; product  design; product architecture and systems design; design for manufacturing; production scale up; and order fulfillment.  

Responsibilities:

  • Manage our rapidly growing engineering department
  • Lead engineering teams on product development and application engineering
  • Ensure that engineering projects are appropriately resourced
  • Ensure that engineering project achieve technical objectives, and are completed on time and within budget
  • Manage engineering project planning and resource allocation for the engineering department. Plan time and budget for engineering projects
  • Work with company leadership to set the priority focus areas for the engineering department
  • Ensure that the engineering department resources are deployed effectively and efficiently
  • Communicate effectively with company leadership, manufacturing, and sales
  • Set performance expectations for the engineering staff, set long term goals and objectives for the engineering staff, and provide annual performance reviews
  • Apply latest additive manufacturing technologies including design software, manufacturing equipment, and materials

Qualifications:

  • 7-10+ years experience in mechanical engineering or product design, 3-5+ years experience as engineering manager
  • Prior experience with engineering project planning and execution
  • Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, materials science and engineering, architecture, industrial design or related field (Masters or Doctorate are a plus)
  • MBA or equivalent management experience commensurate with MBA
  • Experience in product design, industrial design, or application engineering
  • Experience with digital design, CAD, and computer aided engineering
  • Prior 3D printing or manufacturing experience/knowledge (a plus but not required)
  • Smart, forward-thinkers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Appreciation for building and working with materials hands on
  • Detail oriented and interested in learning more about new engineering applications and manufacturing technologies
  • Willingness to dive in for the entire process – from product concept to final part inspection and delivery
  • Flexible timing and able to work independently
  • Thrives in a fast pace and adaptable environment
