Role

The Materials Planner/Buyer position is a key role within our strategic plan for supply chain management at Vital Proteins. Excellent organizational skills, ability to balance short term priorities and exceptional information analysis skills are a necessity.  The role will be focused on materials planning (MRP) and PO management. In addition, the role will be cross-functionally involved in forecasting, supply planning, and production scheduling functions. Supply chain analysis and continuous improvement are a large part of the position. Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain, this role will be located in corporate office in Fulton Market but on occasion will travel to our warehouse and production facility in the Chicago suburbs.

What you will be responsible for:

• The execution of the materials planning (MRP) and procurement of raw materials & packaging material to support material requirements through the utilization of Vital Proteins tools and processes
• Ensuring availability of materials to support internal or external production, in synch with the production schedule
• Creating and maintaining requisitions, purchase orders, acknowledgements and resolve invoice issues
• Using NetSuite in order to manage customer demand and create purchase orders
• Proactively planning future raw material requirements taking into account new product launch timing and upcoming product mix changes
• Providing documentation on supplier order to delivery lead-times, supplier reliability, production delays due to raw materials or alternate material use; root cause analysis
• Understanding the inventory management process with daily communication to support replenishment of on-site levels based on demand
• Other tasks as directed to meet company objectives

Who you are:

• You have a bachelor’s degree
• You have minimum 5 years of Material Planning (MRP) experience in a fast paced consumer products manufacturing company (must)
• You have a working knowledge of an Advanced Planning System such as SAP, JDA, DemandWorks, JD Edwards with hands on experience with Materials Planning (MRP), Production Planning and Inventory Management modules preferred
• You have working knowledge of Innovation or NPD Projects, and have been in an active role to enable New Product Launches
• You have experience with externally sourced production
• You have a proven track record and experience in materials planning (MRP) and purchasing   
• You have an interest in continuous improvement and process development
• You have excellent analytical skills
• You must be comfortable working with all levels of staff and management
• You are passionate about the health, fitness, and/or beauty market
• Bonus points if you hold a CPIM, CPM, or CPSM designation is a plus
• You have the ability to read, write and understand English
