The Network Strategy team plays the role of internal ADUSA consultant to the brands on anything fulfillment network related. This means it supports the brands on an ad hoc reactive basis when it comes to answering questions on where and how to expand the fulfillment network, what stores to roll out Click & Collect to, what Central Fulfillment locations to open and where, what the required capital investment level would be in the near term and long term, etc. In addition, the team provides proactive support by running network models for PDL leadership and the brands as part of the Ahold Delhaize annual business planning cycle (strategic reviews and budgeting processes) based on updated and most recent insights.
The Network Strategy Lead will make sure their Strategy Managers are well positioned to support the brands in their day-to-day operations and can function as the first line of contact for the brand counterparts at the tactical level. The lead themselves will function as the senior connection for the brands to fall back on for bigger picture strategic conversations. As such, they will ensure to stay closely connected to the brands' strategic direction and short- and longer-term plans, using that as input to provide the appropriate support.
They will be responsible for establishing/ developing strategy for Peapod Digital Labs/ ADUSA as well as individual brand strategies tailored to each brand's strategic roadmap, by working with the department lead and peers within the Network & Fulfillment Strategy department, and by directing the Network Strategy team to provide appropriate analytical insights to support this. This includes overseeing the process of delivering modeled network expansion and other analytical output to create network expansion recommendations, a multi-year investment outlook, as well as delivering strategic input to the Executive Board Reviews annually in spring and fall, as well as the budgeting process. The scope for the network strategy encompasses ADUSA's 2,000+ stores and their Click & Collect operations, all 40+ e-commerce central fulfillment locations, as well as an integrated view with the RBS Supply Chain network. The network is projected to have to be able to absorb annual demand growth of 30-50% and the network expansion strategy will guide brands and ADUSA leadership in understanding where and how this capital would be best spent.
The Network Strategy team uses a variety of homegrown and third-party analytical tools and systems that help model network expansion, transportation optimization, network capacity, utilization, cost, customer demand, etc. To ensure that these tools are kept up to date and utilizes the most recent insights, functionality, a modernized modeling approach, and adhere to what the brands and/or ADUSA executive leadership is looking for, the Network Strategy Lead establishes a prioritized development roadmap for expansion and enhancement of these tools, and oversees execution of the roadmap through an on-going continuous improvement approach. Development of these tools and enhancements, through programming/coding as well as writing prescriptive analytics modeling language, happens partially internally by the Network Strategy team's analysts, under the lead's responsibility, and partially through third-party support.
