Position Overview
The Senior Application Specialist - Finance Systems is responsible for implementing and supporting technology solutions that meet the needs of the Finance team. They are accountable for ensuring the day to day operations of the systems under their charge and for supporting the implementation of changes, including the delivery of major projects, enhancement requests, development releases, upgrades, patches, and other system maintenance as required. Application Specialists will work closely with business stakeholders, internal technology teams, and various vendors and third-party consultants and implementers. They must understand their application's interdependencies with other applications and infrastructure both internally and outside the corporate network. While it is a part of the IT team, this is a business-facing role.
It is the responsibility of the Senior Application Specialist to serve in an ongoing partnership with the Finance team, maintaining in-depth knowledge of business operations, strategies, information requirements, and priorities. They are tasked with building positive and active partnerships across the enterprise, taking leadership roles in clarifying and communicating how IT can support business needs. This role supports requirements gathering, solution design, implementation, testing and ongoing support for technical deliverables. The Senior Application Specialist also works to proactively identify opportunities where they can apply technologies to improve business processes.
Incumbents in this position are challenged to develop and maintain effective working relations with both business and IT personnel in a way that demonstrates an understanding of Finance problems, IT strategies, issues, and priorities. This position requires a forward-thinking individual who seeks opportunities to apply technology to improving business processes in support of strategic goals.
Responsibilities

  • Function as Technical Application Owner for one or more applications within the Finance area
  • Support the delivery of projects and enhancements; engage with the Finance and IT teams to define, test and implement business solutions
  • Write and maintain system documentation, process maps, test scripts, use cases, user stories, root cause analysis, and high level integration and data flows
  • Understand the interdependencies of systems and data across the Finance business line to identify and analyze impacts as applications and systems are integrated, upgraded and changed
  • Provide technical and operational guidance on application configuration, data feeds and reporting
  • Assist in the support of financial systems and in the troubleshooting of technical issues.
  • Manage relationships with business stakeholders and ensure excellent communication between business and technical teams
  • Support corporate compliance, regulatory and audit examinations and reviews
  • Actively seeks ways to apply technology to business systems, projects and processes that offer advantages in cost, speed of delivery, quality, flexibility, agility, or any other valued impact
  • Assess near-term needs to establish business priorities; consult with technical subject matter experts and develop alternative technical solutions; advise on options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on other business processes and system priorities
  • Facilitate development of cross-functional solutions that combine knowledge of particular business processes and issues, general technical options and process facilitation techniques
  • Support to the Finance team in defining/designing business processes and researching/identifying enabling technologies based on business requirements
  • Must be willing to provide support 24x7x365


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with financial systems and reporting tools such as Workday and Power BI
  • Proficiency in one or more database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, etc.)
  • Experience leveraging SQL Server (SSIS, SSMS, SSRS, and SSAS) to support reporting and integration
  • Understanding of the Finance business function and how that function maps to IT systems (both IT and business knowledge are required)
  • Experience working with data feeds, interfaces and integrations
  • Ability to understand technical and business concepts with experience in finance/accounting preferred
  • Ability to express complex technical concepts in terms that are understandable to the business
  • Exhibit a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive, and energy
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work diplomatically across all levels within the Wintrust organization and with the vendors that support our applications
