The Terminology Solutions department is responsible for the development and maintenance of content embodied in IMO products. Terminology Solutions is comprised of clinical terminologists, nonclinical terminology analysts, coding professionals, tool developers, and database experts on multiple teams. Clinical Terminologists work in collaboration with other teams to build a corpus of content data using complex technical tools designed by IMO software teams.
The Senior Clinical Terminologist position focuses on critical terminology work and includes clinical review of work performed by nonclinical terminology analysts. Our clinical terminologists utilize their required patient care experience, combined with cursory to extensive levels of research, to develop, QA, maintain, and improve our interface clinical terminology and complex terminology-based products. Clinical Terminologists ensure the clinical integrity of IMO products and solutions.
The Senior Clinical Terminologist position also requires taking responsibility for and leading initiatives and exploratory endeavors. This level includes the ability to facilitate collaboration within the Clinical Team, and across teams. Additional responsibilities include making feasibility and level of effort assessments, as well as training others and providing feedback.

Responsibilities
- Lead research efforts through medical journals and other clinically valid sources for information on archaic to cutting-edge clinical terms. Knowledge and research are required for the development and improvement of client-requested terminology and to aid IMO in proactive terminology creation to support rapidly developing customer content needs.
- Populate and maintain complex, highly specialized terminology datasets, utilizing extensive medical knowledge and first-hand clinical experience.
- Complete a broad range of clinically relevant steps required to link customer terms to IMO interface terminology, including new term creation and mapping of terms to standard terminologies such as SNOMED-CT. Steps may include extensive analysis, QA processes, and customer communication.
- Perform complex analysis of new development needed per product requirements. Undertake complex content data element design and recommendations, including definitions, metadata determination, and configurations for complex, potentially multi-layered terminology structures and other types of complex terminology outputs.
- Provide customer support for clinically intensive questions, concerns, or requests in varying specialty areas, including customer communication when needed.
- Review of updates to standardized terminologies and analysis of impacts to IMO content, products, and solutions. Performance of content maintenance, including term creation and mapping updates, as appropriate.
- Provide domain knowledge and terminology analysis in support of sales and marketing departments
- Complete data analysis and discovery using database tools, including writing SQL queries
- Maintain professional domain knowledge and frequently explore new areas of clinical knowledge to increase impact and effectiveness
Requirements
- Degree in medicine (M.D. or D.O.) - US or International
- Residency or similar clinical experience required; 3+ years clinical experience strongly preferred
- Formal informatics training a strong plus; M.S. Informatics preferred
- 3+ years informatics experience strongly preferred
- Terminology experience working with (e.g. development using, mapping to, etc.) standardized clinical vocabularies, including SNOMED-CT, a strong plus
- Excellent knowledge of English vocabulary and grammar plus American medical terminology required; experience with international terminology and clinical vocabularies a plus
- Experience with databases a strong plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A passion for and deep understanding of nuances of language and meaning

- Demonstrated ability to apply learning from one scenario to different situations.
- Willingness to lead projects and acquire new skills over time
