The Senior Virtualization and Storage Engineer provides technical leadership and expertise to design, implement, and operate FTD's IT Virtualization, SAN, NAS, Compute Storage, and Backup infrastructure. This position requires the ability to support one or more of the following: Microsoft Windows and Unix-Core Operating Systems, EMC storage, Pure Storage, EMC backup systems, VMWare, and open source virtualization. This role is responsible for designing and implementing high availability architectures with SAAS, IAAS, and PAAS models.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, plan, design, and implement various physical & virtual servers and storage architectures.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships across internal and external technical support teams to maintain and improve the integrity of the server, storage, and backup infrastructure.
  • Research, propose, and deliver new processes and technologies and make decisions surrounding complex issues such as high availability and scalable compute architectures.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication at levels appropriate for the intended audience in a professional manner.
  • Work in collaboration with the project management office to create comprehensive statements of work and detailed project plans involving server infrastructure projects.
  • Responsibility for applying appropriate security to systems, documenting the configuration of systems, troubleshooting any reported problems, and system performance tuning.
  • Own one or more technical areas (e.g., storage, backup and recovery, platforms, enterprise data warehouse storage arrays), acting as the enterprise technical expert for these areas.
  • Lead multiple complex and large technical projects to enhance, upgrade, or introduce new infrastructure technology.
  • Design and implement disaster recovery and data replication solutions.
  • Create and maintain documentation of production systems and architecture.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • BS in computer science, engineering or similar technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7+ years of total IT experience (e.g., Infrastructure, Desktop Services, Collaboration, Network, Application Development).
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in managing enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Passion for creating and improving processes with a commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Outstanding analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and coaching skills.
  • Skill in tailoring communication of complex technical information for various audiences.
  • Ability to author architecture and process/procedure documentation.
  • Extensive experience with Windows/Unix-Core, VMware, and SAN environments.
  • Experience managing and implementing HA VMware ESX, SRM, and replication technology.
  • Expert in design and implementation of SANNAS technologies from EMC and Brocade.
  • Expert with network protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, and NTP.
  • Expertise in third party software integration within a server enterprise environment.
  • Expertise in supporting and maintaining multiple server hardware platforms.
  • Expertise in building and supporting enterprise backup solutions preferred.

Preferred Technology Experience:

  • Enterprise Windows 2003-2016, MS Failover Clustering, Active Directory, VMware ESX, Enterprise backup solutions, MS SharePoint, Endpoint Protection, IIS, DNS, DHCP, ExchangeSkypeSMTP, Hardware (UCSHPDell), data center management.
