Sr Capacity Planning and Performance Engineer
Dynamics of the Role
The Technology Infrastructure & Support (TI&S) Capacity Planning and Performance team is critical to TransUnion's Global Technology organization, as they provide critical infrastructure capacity and performance services to IT, business partners and senior management. The teams’ services and responsibilities cover all infrastructure components which requires a sharp understanding of infrastructure components such as storage, servers, middleware, database, network, virtualization, and application architecture. The role requires proactive engagement with IT business teams to obtain projections, growth estimate and provide a detailed layout of what these projections mean from an infrastructure and application growth perspective. The responsibilities and function of the Capacity Planning and Performance Engineer is to provide capacity measurement, reporting, analysis of the distributed systems infrastructure for the data centers, and collaboration with domains to drive remediation.
The Team’s Focus
Technical Infrastructure and Support is responsible for engineering, operations, and support of: servers, storage, network, database, middleware, data centers, network operations center, end user computing, and related technologies. We design, build, implement and provide ongoing support and maintenance (including contract management). Recently, our group established a 24x7 Enterprise Operations Center, migrated off of mainframe to an online infrastructure, completed major technology migrations and launched a virtualized computing environment resulting in increased efficiencies. How you’ll contribute:
•Analyze current and historical capacity and performance data, determining performance bottlenecks, trending and forecasting capacity growth and collaborating with domains to remediate challenges.
•Measure and reporting of a multi-system application environment, system baselines, trends, and overlaying future business growth projections.
•Provide capacity planning and performance analysis aligned with business demand.
•Possess strong business capacity planning and system performance management experience
•Maintain current knowledge of performance and capacity related trends and issues including current emerging technologies and best practices.
•Engage with IT business partners to capture the customers’ growth estimate and able to turn business language into a technical document.
•Understand complex systems, propose solutions, and understand the capacity footprint.
•Provide technical expertise, guidance and strategic recommendations to develop a roadmap that ensures performance and capacity solutions are compatible with the company’s business needs and strategic objectives.
What you’ll bring:
•Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field (such as Computer Science, Engineering, or MIS), and at least 7+ years of IT experience.
•Strong working knowledge on reporting tools such as Splunk, Zenoss, and SCOM.
•Good understanding of enterprise infrastructure such as server, storage, network, virtualization, database, middleware, and various operating systems.
•Strong business and infrastructure capacity planning skills along with a clear understanding of business workflow.
•Great coordination skills with IT partners, capture the business statistics, growth estimate and laydown a capacity plan from an infrastructure perspective.
•Experience in Infrastructure and business capacity planning with strong reporting and performance analysis skills.
•Basic understanding of cloud technologies.
•Strong knowledge on reporting and analysis using multiple tools (Tableau, Power BI, Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint etc.)
•Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as work well in groups and collaborate effectively in infrastructure and business capacity planning.
•The ability to socialize ideas, make recommendations and gather team consensus to move forward.
•Solid teamwork and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate verbally and in writing with customers, associates, vendors, and management.
