To do this, we rely on a network infrastructure that’s critical to the business. As our Network Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation and support of TransUnion’s Global Network.  You will provide technical leadership for our data and voice networks as well as define, maintain, communicate, and implement standards consistent with established architectures and strategy.

 

Who you’ll work with:

 

In this critical role, you will collaborate with senior leadership to develop IT strategy that aligns to business strategy. You’ll be responsible for working with different business units to develop the engineering design that supports the business and define the operational requirements for new and existing systems.

As part of playing a leading role in strategy, design and support, you will also mentor junior level engineers as well as provide second level support for complex issues, problems or projects.

 

What we expect:

 

As a Network Senior Engineer, you’ll need to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with occasional conflicting priorities. You must have the drive and skills to make the best decisions that align with the business and the company’s objectives.

 

Key responsibilities span 4 areas:

 

Design

 

o   Uses knowledge of data networks to develop detailed engineering designs to meet the business as well as operational objectives

 

o   Works closely with the business units to maximize the efficiency of the design by aligning to the current objectives as well as providing new insights into alleviating any complexities

 

o   Defines and adheres to standard engineering designs, templates, processes and procedures for delivering projects that follow TransUnion’s reference architectures

 

o   Provide design options and strategies (i.e. option a/b/c) that cater to specific business-driven requirements

 

o   Proactively utilizes knowledge of the business units in an effort to maximize the efficiency of the solution

 

o   Leverages industry’s best practices and applies them consistently in developing and/or re-engineering designs

 

Assessment and Strategy

 

o   Provides subject matter expertise to maintain the appropriate lifecycle for the technologies in scope, including technology risk, refresh, migration and retirement

 

o   Analyzes systems performance, modifying parameters to improve throughput and effectively utilize system resources.

 

o   Monitors resource usage, making required adjustments as necessary

 

o   Follows proper well-established Change Management procedures

 

o   Responsible for accurately estimating, planning, and executing Network related activities. Relays detailed information to Network and Project Managers

 

o   Establishes and maintains strong collaborative relationships with internal and external strategic partners as well as critical IT infrastructure service providers

 

o   Evaluates and provides in-depth analysis and recommendations towards the selection Network Engineering and Operations tools

 

o   Identifies key areas for improvement and develops a plan to align to strategic objectives.

 

o   Assists leadership by making recommendations in regards to architecture and infrastructure planning. Assesses current methodologies and provides input for enhancement

 

Support

 

o   Resolves issues related to the coordination, control, design, support, and operation of technology components in relation to data and voice networks, including but not limited to LANs, WANs, SIP Trunks, and Data Center Interconnect technologies

 

o   Plans, configures, tests, maintains, troubleshoots and tunes network infrastructure such as Routers, Switches, Firewall Systems, Multi-function switches, Virtual private networks, etc.

 

o   Leads resolution of issues related to the coordination, control, design, support, and operation of Network equipment supporting Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), Wireless, and Voice infrastructure

 

o   Participates in and/or leads projects of medium to high complexity

 

o   Leads on-call production support activities by using appropriate problem-solving methods and leveraging strong Network technologies expertise

 

o   Upon outage resolution, performs a detailed RCA (root cause analysis) and sets plans in motion to prevent and reduce the severity of outages

 

o   Oversees and performs the installation and testing of upgrades working collaboratively with the systems and applications teams

 

o   After a period of acclimation, participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation along with a number of other Engineers

 

Leadership

 

o   In a Network Senior Engineer role the expectation is to deliver excellent quality work and meet deadlines set forth by Senior management

 

o   Works independently with minimal to no supervision, provides updates as required

 

o   Makes highly informed recommendations to the Network Engineering committee for the creation of standards and/or use of new/emerging networking technologies

 

o   Mentors junior team members on current standards and best practices around Networking technologies

 

o   Participates in delivering training classes and performing formal knowledge transfers to the Network and other support teams in the organization

 

o   Acts as an SME when required providing leadership to more junior Engineers

 

o   Provides quality assurance for engineering designs of junior team members

 

o   When needed, participates in reviewing other Engineers RFCs (Request for Change)

 

o   Stays current with new and evolving networking technologies

 

 

What you’ll bring

 

As Network Senior Engineer, you should have 9+ years of progressive data communications experience and a Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical field or similar discipline, equivalent work experience plus Certifications will be condidered. In addition; you should have expertise and firsthand experience in the following technical and professional areas

 

Technical Qualifications:

 

4 - 6 years of experience working with Switching and Routing infrastructure in a large corporate setup, preferably a financial institution. Knowledge of Cisco Nexus, ASR, ISR 4K preferred

 

4 - 6 years of experience working with Firewalls, including but not limited to firewall design, configuration, policy enforcement, VPN L2L, RA VPN, etc.

 

2 - 4 years of experience working with application load balancing platforms, preferably F5 Networks

 

2 - 4 years of experience working with DNS

 

2 - 4 years of experience working with WAN optimization devices (Silver Peak, Cisco WAAS, Riverbed)

 

4 - 6 years of experience in design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of large, complex IP-based networks

 

4 - 6 years of experience with routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, encompassing complex implementations around high availability, redundancy, and fast re-convergence

 

4 - 6 years of experience with Layer-2 and Layer-3 networking technologies including but not limited to Fabripath/TRILL, MPLS VPNs, OTV, VXLAN, GETVPN, DMVPN, etc.

 

Experience designing and deploying QoS across a large enterprise network

 

Experience designing Multicast across an enterprise (Layer 2 and Layer 3)

 

Experience working with customers and outside vendors, both from a design/engineering perspective as well as resolving operational issues

 

Ability to quickly and systematically resolve complex technical issues which may arise from any type of hardware or software failure, misconfiguration, or human error
