Department OverviewThe Software Enterprise Deployment and Integration team is the team that delivers solutions to the public safety sector. We are committed to providing technology and tools which will allow customers to focus on their mission, and enable them to respond faster with smarter and safer decisions. We deploy and support products such as 9-1-1 Call Handling, Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management Systems, Jail Management Systems and Mobile Data Computing, among other offerings.
Job Description
VESTA NEXT Routing Services is a portfolio of products and services that deliver the critical elements to enable and operate a NextGen Core Services (NGCS) solution through the deployment of NGCS Data Centers at multiple locations. VESTA Router is responsible for receiving the incoming emergency calls, voice, SMS and multimedia, in an NENA i3 SIP format from the originating service provider (OSP), and routing them to the proper public safety answering point (PSAP) and associated Call Handling system. The role of the NextGen Core Services Systems Engineer is focused on development, design, evaluation, and modification of system solutions, providing Enhanced 911 services to our customers. The Systems Engineer positively impacts the integration processes, including requirements gathering, solution definition, implementation planning, execution, and solution acceptance. The System Engineer is engaged through the entire project lifecycle from influencing proposal response through final customer acceptance. This includes planning, research, and design using third party products, carrier backhaul, and microwave to integrate mission critical locations via our Emergency Service IP Networks (Esinet) service.
Responsibilities Include
Description of system design, including diagrams
Understanding customer requirements
Participation in proposal reviews
Consultative guidance to customers and sales team
Presentations to customers
Equipment list generation
Development of the implementation approach and service plan necessary to win the project
Meet/Exceed customer requirements and provide value alternatives when requirements cannot be met
Provide solutions for unique environments that may require Layer 2 or Layer 3 functions including OSPF, BGP, VRRP, QoS, ACLs, NAT, and DNS solutions.
Define and implement third party product configurations that include switching, routing, DNS, Firewall, and Load balancing functions.
Create and execute acceptance test plans with emphasis on NGCS Data Center operation and customer premise equipment.
Create, validate, and execute method of procedures for integrating core components of the Vesta Router, transport network, and customer premise equipment.
Provide continuous improvement support with Product and Deployment teams to increase quality and efficiency of the NextGen Core Services Network Designs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, software engineering (or related field)
At least 4 years equivalent work experience in a Network Engineer role
Certifications in routing, switching, & network security is desired
Experience supporting complex end-to-end network solutions in a Mission Critical environment, including fault tolerant, high availability, and redundant implementations.
Knowledge of communication protocols, client server architectures, computer networking technologies, network security solutions, and software integration.
In depth knowledge of networking protocols, system calls, TCP/IP stack, and OSI model.
Experience with design and implementation of Transport equipment including Firewalls, Load Balancers, DNS, Switches, and Routers.
Experience using STP, DHCP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VRRP, QoS, VXLAN, ACLs, NAT, SAN, CGNAT, MPLS, VRFs desired.
Knowledge of KVM, Docker, Openstack, Linux, Windows Server, VMware ESXi, Red Hat, Active Directory, Network Policy, and Powershell a plus.
Ability to understand and articulate details associated with existing customer networks and create customer specific procedures to integrate.
Strong problem solving skills, analytical abilities and ability to deliver on time.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment, maintaining accountability to management.
Own issues and exceptions and works them through to resolution.
Produce transparent written and verbal communications.
Ensure expectations for delivery or resolution are met and communicated transparently to clients, both internal and external.
