Primary Responsibilities

The Supply Chain Planner, operating within the specialty and natural food industry and working with retailers and suppliers, is responsible for purchasing, logistics management, inventory management, supplier operations management, and replenishment. The Supply Chain Planner will work with multiple product categories to include: specialty grocery, natural, dairy, deli and frozen food products. With general supervision the Supply Chain Planner will work cooperatively and cross-functionally with other team members in sales, demand planning, category management, business excellence, transportation, warehouse operations, account management, accounting, brokers, manufacturers, and inbound freight shippers. Essential Functions

  • Become the product planning expert for assigned products & categories.
  • Achieve established service level requirements.
  • Achieve inventory level targets as measured by dollar level, turns, and freshness.
  • Manage gross condemned spoils to target level requirements.
  • End-to-End PO execution.
  • Assist in the negotiation of vendor logistics terms and conditions.
  • Coordinate and lead supplier relations partnership discussions to include inbound performance, on time performance, lead time, long term manufacturer unavailability, and system parameter alignment.
  • Ensure that the lowest cost-to-deliver decisions are made during the purchasing process by working cross-functionally with marketing, transportation, and warehouse operations.
  • Coordinate and potentially lead planning continuous improvements initiatives.
  • Assist with Supply Network Optimization analysis and planning.
  • Effectively communicate any Advanced Order (AOM) issues to include product availability issues, lead time issues, etc.
  • Provide strategic analysis and recommendations to decision makers in Operations, Finance, and Sales relating to long-term product, market and channel trend.
  • Anticipate total network inventory position impacts of sales promotional/seasonal volume projections, new item introductions and obsolete item discontinuation and manages appropriate DRP system parameters to meet inventory targets.
  • Determine the most efficient and cost effective supply plan within a multi-distribution environment.
  • Balance supply levels in order to most effectively utilize company resources for each DC while maintaining targeted inventory levels and service levels.
  • Manage the excess inventory process for assigned product groups.
  • Make recommendations to sell inventory to secondary accounts, transfer inventory to alternate DC's to minimize excess, or to identify product to repack thereby limiting product destruction exposure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements, Qualifications, Additional Skills, Aptitude

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Purchasing/Supply Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or related field preferred. Combination of education and related industry experience will be considered.
  • Related experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of transportation, warehousing, supply-chain execution software and third-party logistics required.

Qualifications / Additional Skills / Aptitude:

  • A thorough knowledge of procurement and logistics preferred.
  • Food industry demand planning and purchasing experience in a similar buyer role preferred.
  • Proficiency in using a desktop computer, including Microsoft Office software, and especially Excel preferred.
  • Ability to manage large volumes of data.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Talent communicating effectively both orally and in writing with people at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to effectively manage a wide variety of tasks simultaneously and often with time conflicting pressures
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively and effectively in a team environment.
  • JDA Demand, E3, and/or NTS (AS400) experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and thinking skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills.
  • Possess a sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Talent communicating effectively both orally and in writing with people at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to effectively manage a wide variety of tasks simultaneously and often with time conflicting pressures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively and effectively in a team environment.
