The group's main business is the implementation of mission critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety Communications customers.
The T5 South Post Sale Systems Engineering Team supports ASTRO 25 network solutions for State and Local Government Public Safety Communications primarily in the States of IL, IN, NE, IA, KY, KS, or MO.
Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:

The customer team comprises Sales, Project Management, System Engineering and System Technologist personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations because we are working on mission critical communication systems.
Many of our systems are designed around the APCO Project 25 communications standard. With the growth of data services some of our customer’s mobile wireless networks are being enhanced with LTE infrastructure for applications such as live mobile video transmission supplementing our traditional core voice and narrowband data networks.
The System Network Engineer acts as a subject matter expert in backhaul design for the State of Illinois public safety system. The System Network Engineer collaborates with the State of Illinois Service team to implement new customer public safety features and equipment into the statewide backhaul design. The System Network Engineer would work closely with Regional Network Solution Architects to implement best practice designs into the State of Illinois backhaul. The System Network Engineer must be self-motivated, possess the ability to work autonomously, and continuously update their skill set as changes in technology and standards are required.
The System Network Engineer will:
Design and Implement ASTRO P25 LMR networks and integration with customer enterprise applications.
Solve complex customer and internal problems with unique LAN/WAN designs using MSI and third-party vendor equipment. Assist Field Service teams with troubleshooting network and mobile backhaul issues.
Provide the local team with design guidance on customers’ transport network solutions to aggregate services for P25-LMR, LTE, Smart Public Safety, and enterprise applications.
Prepare and present technically compelling presentation material on network designs to customers and pre and post-sale engineering teams.
Develop and work with software tools for automating network design and implementation tasks.
Ability to develop both high-level and detailed network diagrams, as well as, install and test plan documentation
Work with test equipment such as LAN/WAN network analyzers and protocol analyzers.
Configure, integrate, and troubleshoot equipment as required; provide support and assistance to third parties for sub-contracted activities.
Act as external liaison for customers’ general contractors, subcontractors and trades people as needed during the implementation and support phases.
Travel is required as needed, for all project phases, from design through final acceptance.
25% to 50% travel is expected for this position
Candidate is able to work remotely and preferred to be based in Illinois.
Minimum preferred certifications: Juniper Network Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA), Nokia Routing Specialist I (NRS I), CompTIA Network+, CCNA or equivalent
Experience with routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, ISIS, and others as needed
Experience with MPLS design and deployments
Experience with Juniper, Nokia, HP, Coriant, Extreme, Fortinet preferred
Knowledge of different media types: Metro Ethernet, Frame-Relay, Ethernet, SONET
Knowledge of physical layers such as fiber, copper, and microwave
Experience with converting T1/OC3 backhauls to MPLS/Ethernet backhauls
Experience with web based cloud services (Azure)
Expert skills at installing, configuring, and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and virtualized servers

- Bachelor of Science degree preferred with an emphasis in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or Computer Science
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in design and implementation of mission-critical IP LAN/WAN Networks Infrastructure MPLS Backhauls, Microwave/fiber optic networks, and Firewalls
