The Principal Data Engineer is responsible for delivering results by:

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining the data architecture to ensure optimal performance and centralized integration with various data sources.
  • Working with leadership to envision and implement centralized data solutions required to deliver our best-of-class products into a SaaS environment.
  • Ensuring that data pipelines are secure, fast, modeled, accessible, and work seamlessly with our multiple lines of software.
  • Actively participating in the engineering process and anticipating future needs


Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement end-to-end scalable centralized data solutions that meet business requirements and align with the company's data strategy.
  • Advance Engineering's Cloud Data Architecture by creating and implementing the data centralization architecture standards and artifacts, including data ingestion, ETL, warehousing, calculations, and consumption.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to develop the data architecture, help build their backlog, and adjust the design of both the data architecture and the client software as necessary.
  • Collaborate on setting, communicating, and governing technical standards and practices of data centralization to align with DFIN's data strategies.
  • Research and create business justifications for data architecture components and technology choices.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, delivery teams, and other stakeholders to define data requirements and establish best practices.
  • Optimize data storage, retrieval, and distribution to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Develop and enforce data policies and procedures to ensure data security and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Flexibility to adjustments and changes in direction as business environment and technology evolves and changes. As such, deliver solutions in small steps, with incremental feedback loops from stakeholders.
  • Mentoring and guiding other Engineers in data-related best practices and standards.


Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of software development of commercial-grade data-driven systems and applications with a proven track record.
  • Strong focused experience in data centralization, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of various relational database technologies, including SQL Server (on-prem and all versions of cloud), Oracle, PostgreSQL.
  • Working knowledge of various NoSQL database technologies, including Cosmos, MongoDB, Apache Cassandra, Redis, etc.
  • Knowledge and proven experience with various Orchestration, Warehousing, Analysis, Visualization, and Consumption techniques and tools, including Azure Databricks, Tableau, Power BI, and others.
  • Hands-on knowledge of multiple data strategies, data lakes, warehousing, and centralization techniques, including ETL/ELT solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with cloud-based data warehousing technologies, including Data Factory, SSIS, Synapse, and Analysis Services. Or examples like, AWS Redshift, Google Big Query, and others.
  • Strong technical understanding of the Microsoft technology stack.
  • Proven experience assessing business requirements.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to perform under pressure to deliver complex technical solutions.
  • Strong experience writing technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Software Development Life Cycle best practices.
  • Well-versed in data governance, data quality, and data security practices.
  • Proven experience in leadership and guidance of others for both technical and professional development.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to relate to both technical and business professionals.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related disciplines.
