About the opportunity
Ontra is seeking a Product Counsel, reporting to our Assistant General Counsel, to join its Legal team!
The role is a great opportunity to support Ontra's Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams, providing a broad range of legal advice on issues related to Ontra's legal tech and artificial intelligence products and services. You will have the opportunity to assist on a variety of strategic initiatives involving new product and feature development, launching new marketing campaigns, and partnerships.

What you'll do

  • Advise key business partners on all aspects of the product-lifecycle from inception to the launch of new products, features and functionality across Ontra's suite of products and services; identify legal and business reputation risks and advocate for all product constituents, especially our customers; and review and advise on marketing campaigns and product and sales communication strategies, including reviewing marketing assets and updates to Ontra's website
  • Establish and implement compliance best practices by keeping up-to-date on applicable data privacy, artificial intelligence, consumer protection, advertising and intellectual property laws and regulations
  • Provide guidance on product partnerships and integrations in connection with strategic partnership, licensing, and co-development arrangements
  • Develop and maintain training materials and other legal resources for use by your business partners, including terms of service, privacy notices, and disclosures/disclaimers


What you'll bring

  • Education: Juris Doctor, admitted to practice law in the United States
  • Experience: 5+ years of legal experience, with a minimum of 3 years counseling on product matters, data privacy and/or technology transactions; 2+ years of BigLaw experience preferred
  • Knowledge: Familiar with US and international data privacy laws, advertising laws and regulations, and consumer protection laws
  • Collaborative: You are a trusted partner who can help the business appropriately balance risk and make decisions that promote the long-term interests of the business
  • Process-oriented: You are excited to build and scale internal processes, documentation, and systems
  • Curious: You are eager to learn more about the ever-changing legal and technological landscape and aren't afraid of to ask questions


Pay transparency
Ontra takes individual candidate location, experience, and skills into consideration when determining compensation. The base pay range is listed below. Additionally, all positions are eligible for unit-based equity grants.
Some positions may be eligible for additional compensation, such as commission or other variable compensation structures, which is not included in the below base pay range.

Base pay range
$154,000 - $216,000 USD
