Software and Controls, Vehicle Integration, Electrical and Power Electronics Engineers for Fuel Cell and Electrical Vehicle Development

Position Overview

A global clean-energy truck start-up company, opening a site in the Greater Chicago Area, is currently seeking engineers with various experience levels in electrical, vehicle integration, controls and software development, to take our business to the next level! You will get opportunities to work on multiple areas/systems (e.g., vehicle integration, fuel cell or vehicle Controls) and play a key role in contributing to the rapid growth of Hyzon Motors.

Responsibilities will be in the following areas:

  • Fuel cell software and controls development for our next generation fuel cell control system.  Model based Development (MBD) using Matlab/Simulink, MIL/HIL for software testing, Autosar BSW configuration and software integration.
  • Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) software and controls development. VCU is the central control unit for electrical powertrain control and coordination. Similarly utilizing MBD for software development, MIL/HIL for software testing and Autosar BSW configuration and software integration.
  • Development for FOTA, remote vehicle performance monitoring and diagnostics/prognosis.
  • Integration of ADAS Level 3 and Level 4 features/functionality into vehicles.
  • Documenting software requirements, design and DVP&R by following the development process.
  • Developing functional safety and cybersecurity related requirements and designs for vehicle and major subsystems.
  • Vehicle Integration including but not limited to document major electrical system requirements, document electrical interfaces, communication interfaces, and support major components (e.g. Motors, Battery) integration into vehicle system. Coordinate various teams for prototype and development vehicles built.
  • Specify and develop various fuel cell, electrical powertrain and vehicle electrical and electronics components including ECUs in collaboration with supply base and support the component integration into vehicles.
  • Specify and develop e-drive power electronics system/component requirements based on vehicle level requirements, design or source the system, test and validate the power electronics system/component for the vehicle application.

Desired Skills

As there are multiple openings in different engineering areas, following desired skills will be the combination of all these areas. One candidate only needs to demonstrate the skills for one engineering area.

  • Experience with fuel cell/VCU/Engine application software development using Matlab/Simulink, following software develop lifecycle using industry best design practices and guidelines.
  • Experience with software testing using MIL/HIL or on real system such as fuel cell or vehicle.
  • Experience with J1939 and UDS communication protocols and Vector tools (CANalyzer, CANoe or CANape etc) for network message/signal management, communication testing and network analysis.
  • Experience with establishing MBD workflow and guidelines, software integration using Autosar methodology.
  • Experience with software development in Linux environment for telematics applications such as OTA support, engineering data gathering and field vehicle monitoring.
  • Experience with integrating ADAS Level 3 features such as lane keep assist into vehicles.
  • Experience with planning and executing prototype vehicle build, specifying vehicle/powertrain systems/parts and managing parts deliverables, coordinate with various teams for vehicle build activities.
  • Experience with specifying requirements for ECUs, electrical powertrain components development, evaluating suppliers’ solutions. Support the integration of these systems or component into vehicles.
  • Experience in high-voltage power electronics design, development and testing DC/AC Inverters, DCDC Converters, On-Board Chargers, Power Distribution in Automotive, On/Off-Highway applications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to explain and document work. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, resolve ambiguity and drive for results.
