The Group: The Morningstar Direct group is the home of Morningstar’s flagship product. We work to serve the needs of professional investors in the Wealth and Asset Management firms. Morningstar Direct connects the product, research, business intelligence, marketing, and wholesaling groups within these firms, and drives efficiency across their primary manufacturing, distribution, and marketing workflows by leveraging Morningstar’s data, research, analytics, and reporting capabilities.

The Role: Morningstar is looking for an experienced Product Management Leader to define and drive the product strategy and establish and deliver the roadmap for Morningstar Direct. By partnering with the Head of Direct and the Direct leadership team, you will be responsible for establishing and delivering the product vision and roadmap for Morningstar Direct. You will act as both product expert and strategist to translate market trends, customer needs, competitive intelligence, and Morningstar intellectual property into innovative deliverables that solve user problems and evangelize those innovations both internally and externally. The right candidate will have a successful track record of creating a strong product culture, that values continuous, rapid testing and learning and will be responsible for instilling and sustaining a culture of innovation. Great products are the result of focus and true collaboration and the successful candidate will model these behaviors in their day-to-day actions.

This role reports to the Head of Morningstar Direct and is based in our Chicago office.

Responsibilities:

  • A key member of Morningstar Direct’s leadership team, you will partner and collaborate closely with the entire leadership team to align groups toward Direct’s vision.

  • Own and drive the product road map while identifying and aligning teams to tackle new opportunities.

  • Foster a customer-centric product culture, develop teams to think strategically and create intuitive product experiences that delight our users.

  • Translate product strategies into clear objectives and key results that product teams and stakeholders rally around.

  • Evangelize Direct’s customers and product internally and externally, including at industry conferences and events.

  • Lead product team to discover customer insights that can be translated into product strategies that create meaningful growth opportunities.

  • Partner with product the development team to continuously refine the product development process to ensure the highest level of quality and efficiency

  • Develop and drive the execution of effective product development processes that ensure efficiency without compromising on quality.

  • Work closely with sales, service and marketing leadership to ensure that our client is at the center of all that we do and that Direct is sold at the right price, to the right user and serviced in a way which makes sense for the customer using the product(s).

  • Support the annual budgeting and reforecasting process.

  • Track the competitive landscape, macroeconomic trends, and potential M&A opportunities.

 

Qualifications

  • 15+ years’ experience with at least 10+ years’ experience in product management and\or product marketing for a global software or analytics company.

  • MBA with a focus on Strategy and\or International Business.

  • Prior responsibility for a portfolio of products serving multiple segments and regions, preferably in the financial services market.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and analytical skills.

  • Self-motivated to work with international multicultural teams.

  • Knowledge and experience with Agile development, and good technical acumen are required.

  • Ability to structure, manage, and coordinate multiple complex cross-functional projects and processes with multiple stakeholders at both senior and junior levels.

  • Willingness to collaborate with global teams during off-hours.

  • Multilingual is a plus. A bachelor’s degree is required.

Every day is a little different. Our team is focused on POC (Proof of Concepts). My work involves problem-solving, development and software design. I work on the Data collections team, currently most of this involves, on a high level, automating the process currently used to collect data from raw sources through Machine Learning.
