Groupon’s Global Platform is the front door to one of the most popular mobile services in the world.  It services a multitude of clients including phones, tablets, browsers and is even integrated into a number of 3rd party systems around the world. In addition to the client-facing duties, our API also works with a diverse array of lower-tier systems collecting and connecting the data and services necessary to fulfill the requests of our clients. This privileged integration point exposes our team members to a wide variety of challenges from the deep technical implementations of the scalable core platform to the user-visible features and functionality available to our customers.

 

Our team’s responsibilities include driving technical platform integration to ensure a single global platform serving Groupon customers all over the world and ensuring best-of-breed privacy and security practices on our platform. As a Technical Product Manager on the platform product team, you will focus on defining and executing privacy and security best practices at the platform level and you will partner with stakeholders across the company to drive a focus on privacy and security across the enterprise. This position is focused on privacy and security, but also will have responsibly for delivering a scalable and highly performant platform in general.

 

The ideal candidate has a track record for driving deeply technical solutions at large scales and with high customer impact. This leader must be able to influence across multiple company organizations, be an exceptionally strong analytical thinker and have a history of delivering results.  As a key member of an elite team, your efforts will make a direct impact on the experiences of millions of customers as well as establish the Groupon service platform as a standard of world-class engineering.

 

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Driving the evolution of the privacy and security practices for the API, upstream clients and the underlying SOA platform

 

  • Ensuring services integrate into the overall platform in a secure, coherent and performant way, with an eye towards a single platform serving all geographies

 

  • Work with engineering and technical operations teams across the company to implement tooling that serves as a source-of-truth service directory that enables day-to-day work and also ensuring we have an up-to-date inventory of data elements flowing through our platform

 

  • Partner with the Information Security, Legal, client-side product and Data Platform product teams to ensure we have a robust set of organizational practices and technical solutions in the trust, privacy and security space; own key policies in this space

 

  • Drive the execution of Privacy By Design practices within larger architecture, product design and planning processes; be a cross-functional owner of these practices (with Legal and Information Security) and ensure there are systems in place to execute these practices across the company

 

  • Focus on highly scaleable, highly performant solutions to ensure the platform is operations optimally and securely during peak traffic and peak activity periods, in the context of both security and the general service-oriented platform

 

  • Develop and execute detailed technical and operational requirements and plans for our e-commerce platform

 

  • Partner with engineers and product managers from across the company to clarify and focus trust, security, privacy and platform integration requirements and act as key knowledge owner on how to integrate products into the Groupon platform

 

Requirements:

  • Experience with trust, security and privacy tools and practices for a customer facing e-commerce company, or an equivalent B2B or enterprise organization

 

  • Knowledge of the current privacy and security landscape, including regulatory requirements in North America, the European Union and Asia

 

  • 7+ years of related experience at a consumer e-/m-commerce company

 

  • Strong analytical, detail oriented, problem solving, communication and project management skills

 

  • Extremely high judgment and structured thinking to ensure solutions optimize for the highest opportunity areas

 

  • Understanding of how to build scalable distributed systems.

 

  • Experience working with integration systems powering large mobile and web products

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
