Kin is the home insurance company For Every New Normal. Because of our proprietary technology and direct-to-consumer model, we provide affordable pricing without compromising coverage, even in areas most impacted by climate change. We’re proud to offer fully digital homeowners insurance with an elegant user experience, accurate pricing, and fast, high-quality claims service.

We are also proud to be recognized as Built In’s 2021 Best Midsize Companies to Work For in Chicago and Forbes 2021 Best Startup Employers in America. We are growing super fast, and we need forward-thinking, inspired game-changers like you to help lead the way.

Kin’s Product team is the fulcrum that takes our vision of what home insurance should be and makes it real. Our product managers are responsible for the commercial success of the product. They straddle technology and all other business areas to ensure the right work is getting done.

We are currently looking for a Director or Senior Product Manager to join our Discovery Team. This is a vital role on a team that is essential to helping drive customer expansion and revenue growth at Kin.  This person will immerse themselves in the early stages of the customers’ (predominantly digital) journey in discovering Kin’s insurance products, and why Kin’s products are best in class.  This person will be leading a product team and working with an engineering team that are building products and features that are at the “tip of the spear” in driving user interest and engagement with Kin’s products, innovating solutions to increase awareness of Kin products, and driving more and more of the right types of prospective customers to Kin’s site(s).

In terms of internal business stakeholders, the Discovery team partners mostly closely with our Marketing organization - and the teams within it - on identifying methods, tools, products, and features to drive awareness, interest, and prospective customers to our site(s). This leader and their team will also partner very closely with our Funnel Product team, which is the team responsible for formally converting engaged prospects into customers. This role requires critical thinking and understanding about user behavior and user acquisition strategies, and the ability to translate those strategies into practical use cases and features that will positively impact Kin’s growth. This team may be involved in product management efforts related to brand, channel expansion, research, user targeting, analytics, or other Marketing-related activities.

This role will also be responsible for directly managing a small team of one or more other product management resources, as well as collaborating with colleagues at all levels within the organization.  As part of an Agile development team, this person and their team will also be working daily with a skilled and dedicated Engineering team.

In short, we are looking for an extremely talented, experienced, and collaborative product manager who is seasoned in digital user acquisition, partners well with Marketing, and can help Kin in the next phase of our growth journey.

A day in the life could include:

  • Prioritize products, features, and enhancements including short, mid, and long-term roadmaps.
  • Create data-driven decisions and recommendations for priorities
  • Presenting recommendations to senior leadership as well as any other level of stakeholder in the organization
  • Gathering user research and inputs across business functions
  • Outlining problems and proposed solutions, supported with data
  • Writing user themes, epcis, and/or stories that provide all of the details needed by our development teams to develop critical features
  • Collaborating with design to create functional prototypes for user testing and mockups for developers
  • Planning ahead to ensure team has appropriate amount of work ready and delivery timelines are known to stakeholders
  • Coordinating and leading regular team and stakeholder meetings
  • Defining metrics that demonstrate product success, while monitoring and responding to outcomes

I’ve got the skills… but do I have the necessary ones?

  • 12+ years total work experience
  • 8+ years product management experience
  • 5+ years experience managing people and teams
  • Extensive experience working in user acquisition and growth roles, or similar roles driving user traffic and conversion
  • Extensive experience partnering with Marketing functions and other departments within high-growth companies
  • Extensive experience working with Agile product and engineering teams in startup and/or rapid-growth environments
  • Product management experience at B2C or other software/technology companies
  • Extreme passion about marketing and technology
  • Ability to turn incomplete, conflicting, or ambiguous inputs into concrete action plans
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and self-starter attitude
  • Experience owning process management or process improvement projects
  • A passion for customer feedback and research
  • An eye for great products and willingness to advocate for new features with qualitative and quantitative reasoning
  • Ability to communicate with empathy and precision
  • Ability to effectively communicate with engineers about technical features and product architecture

Oh, and don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

  • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance (including 100% employer-paid plans)
  • Remote/hybrid work environment and flexible work hours
  • Flexible PTO policy
  • Very generous equity options and 401K
  • Parental Leave
  • Continuing education and professional development
  • Disability and Life Insurance
  • Onsite gym membership - when we return to the office (Chicago office only)
  • The excitement of joining a high-growth Insurtech company and seeing your work make an impact
