Senior Product Manager - Manager Selection & Due Diligence services
Research Products is the home for securities research for retail investors, advisors, and due diligence teams. It consists of the following four commercial product areas: Due Diligence and Manager Selection, Research Distribution, Individual Investor, and Investor Insights. The individuals in this group transform our high-quality data, independent research, and technological expertise into well-designed products and solutions that delight our clients.
The Due Diligence and Manager Selection team is looking for a senior product manager to work within a small team that owns Morningstar’s very visible research consultancy business across many segments of the wealth management, insurance, and asset management space in North America. These solutions consist of Select Lists of funds, Due Diligence and Fund Governance services, multi-asset portfolios of funds, and analyst access services to our manager research and manager selection research teams. You will work closely within the Due Diligence and Manager Selection product group both in the U.S. and globally, with Morningstar’s research analysts, sales teams, and senior management to define, market, and grow Morningstar’s Due Diligence and Manager Selection offerings, in addition to broader research solutions. You will provide a vision for our product offering and leadership within our business, sales, and marketing teams to drive growth. This role has a significant external client facing element. This position is based in our Chicago office and will require travel approximately 20% of the time.
Job Responsibilities
- Forecast and deliver revenue targets for Morningstar’s Due Diligence and Manager Selection Services products lines for clients in the U.S. and Canada
- Define and maintain Morningstar’s research solutions relative to competitive offerings from other research firms and consultants
- Work closely with internal teams to deliver Morningstar research solutions through proprietary client systems, Morningstar software, and third-party platforms
- Advocate internally and externally for Morningstar’s manager research capabilities and differentiated methodology
- Enable and maintain knowledge of Morningstar’s research value proposition and delivery mechanics among Morningstar’s client service teams through ongoing training, documentation, and operational process improvement
- Cultivate strong partnerships with Morningstar’s sales teams to enable seamless knowledge sharing and ensure strong client successes
- An important part of the role is to participate directly in client sales discussions, from discovery through implementation
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree and MBA and/or CFA or equivalent experience
- At least 5-7 years of experience in sales or client service, and/or 7+ years of experience in research with client engagement
- Fluency with technical delivery systems and experience with our aptitude for understanding Agile development techniques
- A passion for investing with strong knowledge of the mechanics of financial markets across asset classes and managed products (open end funds, SMAs, CITs, ETFs, and other products)
- Impeccable written and verbal communication skills
- A demonstrable ability to influence internal stakeholders to build consensus among amid competing priorities
- Good presentational skills and the ability to create presentations in Powerpoint
- An inquisitive and critical mind, strong attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task
- Ability to look at situations from several points of view: internally, externally, and cross-functionally
- Ability to make timely decisions under tight deadlines with incomplete information
