About Our Candidate:

 

We are hiring a Senior Technical Product Manager to help build out our suite of AI/ML powered products. We are undergoing a massive digital transformation and this position will play a key role in pioneering change within the Auto Remarketing Industry. You will have a direct impact on thousands of buyers, sellers, users, and customers across North America who use our online platforms every day. 

 

We are looking for a high-caliber Senior Technical Product Manager to manage several key areas within KAR Data Services. As our Senior Technical Product Manager, you will be responsible for understanding multilateral business needs, customer needs, competitive landscapes, trends, and defining product roadmaps that leverage technology and data to delight our customers. You will own big areas of very high strategic importance that are pivotal to our business growth. You will largely be building data science oriented product capabilities across multiple marketplace platforms. Capabilities such as recommendation carousels, pricing APIs, computer vision libraries, etc. You will be spending your time working through product Discovery, Definition, and Delivery.

 

Data, data science, machine learning, and analytics solutions will be key tools for this position; from understanding usage patterns of recommendations and search to influencing purchase behavior through pricing guidance and transaction history. In this role, you will leverage your unique combination of business and technical knowledge to evaluate technical options and to represent business requirements to the Data Services organization. You must have a keen eye for detail and be willing to question established norms to drive innovation and change. 

 

What You Will Be Doing: 

  • Define product requirements and lead successful execution of strategic initiatives for Data Services 

  • Collaborate with business to identify common functional needs and execute roadmap to deliver 

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to design, build, launch, and market new capabilities 

  • Engage closely with technology and data science teams to determine best implementation and design while balancing time-to-market needs 

  • Maintain a robust backlog, breaking projects into attainable milestones with MVP deliveries 

  • Define metrics to assess success and failure of product features to ensure stakeholder alignment 

  • Monitor and measure the success of launched features to maintain a tight learning loop that leverages qualitative insights from user research as well as quantitative results to continually inform the product development process 

  • Cultivate a deep understanding of the user - our buyers, sellers and internal business stakeholders 

  • Develop and maintain the role of a “trusted advisor” with product leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to drive long-term impact 

  • Help the leadership team understand the latest growth numbers and trends, advising on what we need to do. This will include leading discussions, engaging in debate, driving an opinionated group to reach a conclusion 

 

What You Need to Be Successful: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a Technical discipline; MBA or technical graduate degree a plus

  • 5+ years of Product Management experience in e-Commerce or online marketplace; Automotive experience is a plus 

  • 8+ years overall experience in e-commerce, technology, or digital 

  • Experience in cross-functional roles and product development with distributed teams 

  • A proven track record for building, launching, and maintaining high-scale, successful analytics or AI/ML products and bringing them to market 

  • Experience working with data science outputs for enhancing/improving the product experience 

  • Proactive, organized, focused, and appropriately prioritize competing initiatives  

  • Demonstrated ability to deep dive products, businesses, and competitive landscapes 

  • Experience in managing customer-facing services for both web and mobile 

  • Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills, ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and help develop business cases with product owners 

  • Experience with customer development and validating products through customer feedback. 

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to speak the language of technology and business teams 

  • Comfortable presenting to senior leadership with strong attention to detail, and the ability to see and explain the big picture 

  • Technical background, with experience in software development methodologies like SAFe, Agile, Kanban, and Lean 

  • May require travel

Location

Our Chicago office is located in River West on the North Branch of the Chicago River. We have free shuttles to major train stations and CTA lines.
