Job Summary

This position is accountable for technical product support services throughout the product lifecycle, including delivery and execution of technical product development activities to meet the WBA Heath & Wellness product growth plans.
Job Responsibilities include:

  • Leading technical product development activities over the full product lifecycle within a product category.
  • Leading the technical direction for New Product Development and maintenance projects to maximize delivery of innovation, efficiency, quality, and sustainability parameters that meet the brand requirements.
  • Leading the input of technical finished product criteria into product briefs, including quality and regularity criteria appropriate for the product category.
  • Acting as a technical consult for the internal brand and sourcing teams as well as partner product suppliers
  • Providing direction on the finished product qualify validation processes, including product and packaging.
  • Facilitating technical approvals that ensure brand/customer, supply chain and business KPIs meet expectations, including providing technical recommendations
  • Collaborating with cross-functional partners, global subject matter experts, and the product suppliers to ensure delivery of products and packaging that meet business the needs for Walgreens Owned brand and WBA Global Brand products.

Championing the New Product Development process that support the WBA Owned Brand products.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leads packaging consolidation projects and manages package validation activities including performance testing and line trials with offsite resources including labs and packaging and product supplier resources.
  • Defines and qualifies product packaging characteristics though activities that include analyzing engineering drawings, specifications of products, and test results.
  • Defines and enforces packaging quality, safety and sustainability standards across the Owned Brand product profile.
  • Collaborates with various departments, including product development, supplier manufacturing, marketing, creative design, legal, sourcing, and supply chain to ensure the package will meet the company’s needs of selling and protecting the product while maintaining efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Trouble shoots packaging integrity issues and facilitates solutions.
  • Serves a technical packaging expert for owned brand products in the America’s. Collaborates with packaging teams located globally including the UK and Asia offices.
  • Supports packaging supplier management activities.

Basic Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific field such as packaging, materials science, industrial engineering, or logistics and at least 4 years of experience in packaging engineering, packaging science, and/or packaging technology; OR a High School Diploma or GED and at least 7 years of experience packaging engineering, packaging science, and/or packaging technology.
  • Experience in consumer packaging, manufacturing, and package testing.
  • Proven ability to plan and carry out responsibilities with minimal direction.
  • Proven Analytical and critical thinking skills; including the ability to identify trends and provide potential solutions.
  • At least 2 years of experience influencing others and working in a team environment.
  • Experience in the indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other members of a team.
  • Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using AVERAGE function, merging and centering cells, printing centered page and/or creating a pivot table).
  • Advanced level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: adding developer tab, creating a macro, formatting table style, inserting comments and/or creating a mail merge).
  • Willing to travel up to 15% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience managing technical product development activities for consumer products in Medical
  • Devices or Health & Wellness categories
  • Knowledge of medical device regulations and product requirements. Experience monitoring industry changes and scope business impact
  • Experience working with suppliers and third party technical resources to define and qualify technical finished product attributes
  • Experience leading product & package evaluations (ie performance testing) and product testing.
  • Demonstrated leadership of technical product development with consumer products
  • Proven experience interpreting marketing briefs into technical criteria and communicating across different levels of technical knowledge within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Experience working within a program management process that supports NPD and overall Project lifecycle management
  • Experience with specification management systems and/or a quality management system
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical standard governing bodies related to health & wellness products
  • Desire to consciously learn and apply technical knowledge principles across all finished product attributes.
