Job Description
Position Overview
As a Project Engineer, Transmission Engineering, you will participate in the engineering and construction process for cutting-edge transmission projects. You will be responsible for the coordination of activities associated with the siting, design, and construction of Transmission Lines.
Other responsibilities will include conceptual project designs in addition to directing engineering design firms that complete the detailed project designs. The electrical system of these projects may include AC voltages ranging anywhere from 34.5 kV - 765 kV, in addition to HVDC or off-shore projects. The project engineer is also responsible for assisting the development and permitting team by creating conceptual designs, coordinating interconnection details, and identifying and providing solutions to critical project constraints.
Responsibilities

Management of electrical design consultants.

Develop conceptual designs that comply with all critical owner and interconnection requirements.

Conduct thorough reviews of civil and electrical drawings.

Define the scope of all required detailed engineering and review work performed by consultants for accuracy and compliance.

Track design schedules, update all stakeholders and ensure that critical dates are met on time.

Organize and transfer all as-built documentation to operations team including electrical drawings, schematics, bill of materials, electrical studies, and relay settings.

Coordinate with development and environmental teams to meet project needs through engineering support of development agreements and environmental permitting constraints.

Assist in developing department level and project specific specifications and requirements.

Review competitive bids for owner procured material. Supporting the purchasing of this equipment and manage suppliers throughout the engineering and commissioning process.

Monitor construction progress both remotely and via on-site inspections and support resolution of any field issues. Attend on-site meetings with electrical construction contractors and in person coordination meetings with interconnection utilities.

Prepare and validate electrical energy calculations.

Prepare and validate preliminary right-of-way calculations.

Prepare and validate preliminary line rating and line impedance calculations.

Witness factory acceptance testing for major equipment.

Coordinate with independent engineers and project partners to effectively navigate the technical due diligence process.

Assist in the development of new projects by analyzing conceptual designs and RFQ specifications.

Coordinate with operations engineering to incorporate lessons learned into new design reviews and specifications to continuously improve quality.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry technology through various training sessions and conferences.

Participate in industry working groups and offer opinions to aid the development of new rules, codes and policies that affect renewable projects.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering.

3+ years of relevant work experience

Proficiency in PLS-CADD
-
Ability and willingness to travel up to 25%.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Knowledge of transmission line design, ideally acquired through 3-5 years of relevant work experience.

Proficiency in PLS-CADD and other Power Line Systems software.

Working knowledge of standards and codes (e.g., NESC, GO-95, ASCE, EPRI, ANSI, IEEE).

Ability to coordinate and manage projects with multiple levels of interface between outside consultants and other stakeholders.

Advanced education or credentials (e.g. MS, PhD, PE, PMP) are a plus

Experience with Global Mapper, L-Pile, FAD or similar software is a plus.

Experience with other HV/MV electrical infrastructure (e.g., substations, switchyards, distribution, transformers, generators, etc.) is a plus.

Proficiency in Bluebeam is a plus.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Salary Range
$100,000 – $115,000
