Job Summary

Accountable for directing agile operations activities to achieve strategic and operational business goals and targeted financial and quality results. This role owns the strategic development of the platform that helps our pharmacy team deliver better customer experience on a daily basis. Responsible for cross-functional management of specified technology product(s) and/or solution(s). 
As a key member of the Engineering leadership team, this role helps to grow and mature the agile organization through effective hiring, coaching and development of a dynamic team. This role is the key owner for delivering software within the agreed upon scope, including responsibility and accountability for delivery schedule, quality, budget and guiding a cross-functional team of product managers, architects, developers and testers towards this goal. Works across functional areas to implement agile strategies and ensure offerings are defined to maximize profitability. 
Another key responsibility will be to implement agile practices and processes within the team to ensure successful delivery of the platform. By regularly engaging a wide variety of stakeholder, this role provides visibility into key metrics that track status, assess risks and mitigates issues on a continuous basis. This role evaluates and adjusts strategies to respond to competition. Ensures customer needs and requirements are represented. Contributes to the general business planning regarding technology and systems required to maintain Walgreens operations and competitiveness. The successful candidate will passion for design, embraces innovation and understand how technology can enhance lives.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for the strategy, roadmap, prioritization, development, and implementation of key products in a fast paced, agile environment. Responsible for the launch and continuous improvement of new and existing product features and services, leading to the successful implementation across different verticals, as well as several 'in progress' projects. Drives the cultural adoption of scaled agile principles and values to implement a creative, strong business and technical vision. Primary focus is on driving the strategic product delivery process, including removing impediments that kill productivity or block the team’s progress.
  • Develops and monitors metrics to determine the success criteria for delivery. Leads retrospectives to uncover what’s working, what’s not and how we can improve.
  • Develops and executes on IT product/service strategies and plans. Directs the operations of the assigned functional area to achieve strategic and operational business goals and targeted financial and content quality results.  Establishes operational objectives for managers and/or teams of professionals in order to achieve the strategic and operational objectives of the group. Responsible for executing on functional and business goals for the specified area of expertise. Proactively addresses problems a cross functional areas of the business.
  • Partners with other delivery leads, engineering, and product owners to identify and manage cross-team dependencies. Provides day-to-day administrative direction and oversight of key technology/information systems and general support activities.
  • Works with key shareholders to formulate a comprehensive technology plan that is consistent with the overall business objectives and budgetary considerations. Work closely with product delivery team(s) to ensure agreed upon backlog items are prioritized, developed and released. May communicate on behalf of the product and/or engineering leads when required.
  • Applies broad knowledge of product/service capabilities and environment to identify new growth areas, new technology and emerging product/service opportunities. Conducts technological research by studying organization goals, strategies, practices, and user projects. Recommends information technology strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating organization outcomes; identifying problems; evaluating trends; anticipating requirements.
  • Promotes continuous improvement and protects culture of innovation. Implements policies and defines approach to strategy achievement for specified area of responsibility. Analyzes long-term impact of new or anticipated strategies and decisions.
  • Manages budgets, operational plans and performance requirements for the specified are of responsibility. Responsible for meeting budgetary goals and objectives.
  • Provides execution and delivery leadership to the product teams to deliver high-quality products in committed timeframes. Facilitates communication between staff, management, vendors, and other technology resources within and outside of the organization. Shares highly complex information related to areas of expertise. Interacts with senior management to keep abreast of objectives.  Interacts with direct reports and peers in management / customers / vendors to interpret information and improve cross-functional processes and programs.  Builds and enhances key internal and external contacts.

External Basic Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience in a technical engineering leadership role, such as software development, release management, deployment engineering, site operations, technical operations or similar OR a High School diploma/GED and at least 11 years of experience in a technical engineering leadership role, such as software development, release management, deployment engineering, site operations, technical operations or similar.
  • Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community & with vendors.
  • Experience diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems
  • Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience managing cross-functional and/or matrix teams.
  • Experience interacting at the executive level.
  • At least 3 years of experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and capital budgets.
  • At least 3 years of experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, IS, Mathematics
  • Master's degree OR MBA
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Experience working with Scrum processes.
  • Pharmacy systems experience
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Experience embedded within agile development teams, facilitating the development efforts and delivering high quality products.
  • Experience working with both development, operations, and non-technical groups to facilitate teamwork, respect, and continuous performance improvement.
  • Experience bringing multiple groups together to facilitate prioritization of needs and drive those priorities in a dynamic, changing environment.
  • Knowledge of common agile/lean engineering practices, and development practices.
  • Experience identifying team impediments and dedicatedly find solutions on-the-fly.
  • Experience with agile project tracking tools such as JIRA.
