Job Summary

The Horizon 3 program is a rapidly growing start-up within the broader Walgreens organization. Its goal is to build a new consumer-centric, technology-enabled healthcare business, enabling consumers to find, get, and manage their care, when, where, and how they want to. This role is responsible for defining and implementing aspects of the program management of the Horizon 3 (H3) program, including strategies, processes, and resources. Provides program management and oversight from conception and planning through implementation, launch, and post-launch support. Implements performance management cadence and tracking tools to increase program transparency, ensure accountability and discipline, and highlight and resolve key risks and blockers. Supports governance meetings with executive leaders and key internal and external stakeholders.
Provides business strategy and operations leadership and guidance to team members to achieve complex goals. Captures and tracks program risks, and works with the organization to develop mitigations for the most critical risks. Communicates program milestones, schedules, and risks to the business, product, and technical teams and to the broader organization. Capable of wearing multiple hats within an agile and dynamic start-up environment

Job Responsibilities

  • Formulates a comprehensive program management plan that aligns with the overall business objectives, budgetary considerations, and product requirements. Ensures key milestones and outcomes are turned into action plans for execution by the H3 teams. Responsible for a portfolio of H3 projects that have broad impact on the organization.
  • Leads alignment, within a complex matrixed environment, on program scope and works to gain alignment with teams on vision, business goals, and program structure. Supports cross-functional efforts to meet program needs.
  • Coordinates with multiple teams to establish project milestones, roadmaps, and schedules for a portfolio of projects. Anticipates, captures, and manages cross-product dependencies across the program teams. Regularly communicates across teams about critical cross-product dependencies and associated coordination efforts.
  • Establishes and tracks project plans for an overall program, including schedules, budgets, and resourcing for the program teams. Tracks and adjusts plans, schedules, and outcomes based on evolving program scope and requirements as well as business and program issues that arise. Supports resource redistribution and engagement of supplemental resources to address critical issues and needs.
  • Establishes a risk management plan for each project. Anticipates, captures, and manages program risks, and works with the organization to develop mitigations for the most critical risks. Regularly communicates critical risks, probability of occurrence, and risk mitigations to the business unit leadership and other key stakeholders. Provides timely notification of any critical risks that manifest, and supports mitigation plans to address related issues. Works with teams to resolve blockers and ensures timely escalation when needed.
  • Interfaces and coordinates with program stakeholders within the business unit and business unit senior management to define program objectives, provide status updates, and prepare for release and deployment. Applies business process expertise to plan complex programs and resolve issues.
  • Supports weekly performance management and governance cadence. Works with direct reports and key stakeholders to develop meeting agendas and ensure timely preparation of needed materials. Leads meetings with key stakeholders for the program to align on and make key decisions, remove obstacles, and address key program issues. Serves as a key business lead to ensure that business goals and product requirements are balanced with feasibility and available resources and budget. Regularly communicates program milestones, schedules, and critical risks to the program teams and to the broader organization. Implements performance management tools (reporting, dashboards, detailed work plans) to provide transparency for H3, Walgreens, and partners.
  • Initiates and manages workgroup alignment meetings to address program changes, tactical issues, critical risks, technical challenges, etc.
  • Creates a collaborative environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and learning.
  • Implements policies and defines approach to program achievement. Analyzes long-term impact of new or anticipated strategies and decisions. Identifies and implements process improvements.
  • Manages budgets, operational plans, and performance requirements for program management office. Responsible for meeting budgetary goals and objectives.
  • Leads team and facilitates communication between staff, management, vendors, partners, and other resources within and outside of the organization. Shares highly complex information related to areas of expertise. Interacts with senior management to keep abreast of objectives. Interacts with direct reports and peers in management, customer and partner organizations, and vendors to interpret information and improve cross-functional processes and programs. Builds and enhances key internal and external contacts.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of experience in large scale program management, management consulting, or startup operational experience OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 9 years of experience in large scale program management, management consulting, or startup operational experience.
  • Knowledge of project management tools and Agile program management methodologies and processes, including methods and tools for capture and management of program requirements and specifications; methods and tools for project planning and development; and methods and tools for project risk management.
  • Exceptional time management skills and the ability to balance multiple projects and competing priorities across complex programs.
  • Knowledge of product development processes and software development lifecycle and an ability to adjust and apply this knowledge in a dynamic environment using agile methodologies.
  • Experience building credibility and rapport with senior executives, business, operational, product, and technical teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial business decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 3 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership, and/or cross functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel at least 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business or finance
  • Experience with program management of complex programs
  • Experience in managing both operational and software development projects
  • Experience with program risk management
  • Experience in start-up and healthcare organizations
  • At least 4 years of experience contributing to financial business decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership, and/or cross functional team leadership.
