The Project Manager Job

Our Project Managers are the point guards of our teams. The symphony conductors. The quarterbacks. The fire house captains. They lead in strategy development, and also make sure the project is executed efficiently and effectively.

As a Project Manager, you will be primarily responsible for (1) developing innovative, integrated engagement strategies that are digitally sophisticated and informed by data, and (2) leading teams across multiple projects.

You

You believe in the power of people coming together to make change -- and are excited about helping campaigns, causes, and companies activate and harness that type of energy.

You are a creative, collaborative self-starter with strong project management skills, attention to detail, and 4-6 years of experience with organizing strategy -- whether that’s online, offline, or a mix of both.

You believe in the power of grassroots organizing; that the integration of digital and offline organizing is a must; and that the best programs are data-driven.

As a Project Manager you'll do things like:

    • Develop high-level strategy, in collaboration with our senior leadership
    • Be responsible for internal project success
    • Organize and facilitate client calls, meetings, trainings, and strategy sessions
    • Build timelines and keep teams (both internal and external) accountable and on track
    • Write strategy documents and draft client deliverables
    • Provide digital and grassroots organizing advice
    • Collaborate with our data team to set goals, determine benchmarks, and measure progress and performance
    • Interface with vendors and recommend appropriate services to client partners
    • Provide feedback, give recognition, and otherwise coach internal team members

To be successful in this role you'll need to have:

    • Experience managing multiple complex, fast-paced projects at once
    • 4-8 years of experience with organizing strategy and an understanding of digital organizing principles
    • Ability to use data and analytics to drive decision making and program development
    • Familiarity with paid media strategy and how to leverage digital ads to reach goals
    • Strong leadership experience, and the ability to lead a team
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Strong writing skills and a proven ability to produce written material within a deadline (using tools like PowerPoint, GoogleDocs, and Microsoft Word)
    • Strong judgment and critical reasoning skills, with the ability to navigate new situations
    • A track record of working with diverse partners
    • Experience presenting ideas to senior stakeholders, leaders, and/or clients
    • Confidence and professionalism while engaging with contacts ranging from grassroots volunteers to high-level public officials
    • Enthusiasm for a team-based work environment
    • A sense of humor, a willingness to embrace both your own quirks and others’, and a passion for progressive issues

Not all of these are required, but having at least a few of these skills or experiences will help you be even more successful in this role:

    • Designing and running advocacy campaigns
    • Working in or with political campaigns
    • Developing curricula and facilitating trainings
    • Designing and executing email campaigns
    • Running online fundraising programs
    • Managing a large email list (100,000+ subscribers)
    • Leveraging digital tools (e.g. P2P texting) and tactics for online/offline engagement
    • Using SQL and data and experimentation tools (e.g. Optimizely
    • Speaking, reading, and writing in major world languages other than English -- especially Spanish (native-level fluency is even better!)
