Operations Special Projects Manager
Home Chef’s Fulfillment team is responsible for the day-to-day operations and strategic growth of Home Chef’s three plants in Bedford Park, IL (outside Chicago), Lithonia, GA (outside Atlanta), San Bernardino, CA (outside LA). We are looking for a Special Projects Manager who will drive change and process improvement across all three plants in our fulfillment network. This role will manage and implement high-impact, high-priority engagements, reporting into the Sr. Director of Fulfillment. The right person will have extremely strong drive and ownership, and will be able to partner with employees at all levels of the organization from hourly production associate to the C-suite. A person in this position will get hands on experience in the plant and learning in different areas of operations and will be able to grow rapidly. This position is a plant based role, requiring a minimum of 50% travel between the three plants, with flexibility on home location.
Responsibilities:
- The focus of this role is to put a strong focus on "people" projects for the operations team and will include projects focused on talent strategy within operations.
- Examples of types of projects include helping us build out and standardize org charts across the facilities, assessing existing roles and job descriptions for whether they are applicable to our current state of operations, and helping us to build out future programs that relate to internal promotions, interim roles, skills training, employee retention initiatives, etc.
- Drive impactful, lasting change through continuous improvement initiatives by working alongside managers, team leads and hourly associates
- Build in Excel, impact and financial models to size impact against work streams, working comfortably with large data sets and top-down assumptions
- Ensure smooth and sustained implementation of new processes by coordinating with all necessary parties
- Create presentations to communicate projects to C-suite and training materials to roll-out new initiatives throughout the organization
- Adapt quickly and fluidly to rapidly changing projects and under dynamic conditions (e.g., piloting multiple solutions in a test-and-fail approach)Be solutions-oriented in challenging contexts with multiple stakeholders
- Be able to influence business owners and plant employees to adopt new solutions and processes
Qualifications:
- 2+ years at top-tier consulting firm or in strategic/operational role in fast-growing start-up or corporate environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills to structure, prioritize and dimensionalize issues within given projects (2+ year experience at a top tier consulting firm or in a strategy or operations role)Exceptional Excel analytics and an innate feel for numbers to determine how to prioritize work streams based on value creation and create necessary tools and tracking mechanisms to measure success and impact
- Able to envision tactical solutions that will work in hands-on operational environments with ease
- Strong commitment to implementing solutions in operations that will create long-term value across the full business
- Excellent verbal and written communicator, with experience in giving structured and insight-led presentations to C-suite executives and hourly employees alike
- High aptitude for tightly organized planning and process management, and strong attention to detail
- Extremely independent and able to work to effectively without strong oversight
- Adaptive and flexible in a quick-changing, fast-growth environment, able to shift gears quickly and multi-task effectively under tight deadlines
- Willingness to pitch in and help at all levels of the organization, with a solutions-oriented, can-do mindset
- Results-oriented attitude; able to multi-task and get things done in a fast-paced environment
- Interpersonal skills to work with team members in both production and corporate environments
- Ability to think “outside-the-box” when identifying and recommending operational improvements
