We are looking for a highly motivated Program Manager to coordinate the efforts of our diverse team of medical experts, clinical data analyts, and software engineers currently constructing a Pediatric Cancer Data Commons (PCDC) at the University of Chicago. 

The PCDC is transforming research in childhood oncology by creating a single platform of harmonized clinical data that will serve as a global resource for medical investigators. At present the disease areas include neuroblastoma, sarcoma, leukemia, and lymphoma, and we will expand into other areas over the next several years. The Program Manager will serve as the prime mover of these projects, optimize resource allocations, and engage our clients and project stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Builds and executes project plans for all PCDC initiatives.
• Serves as primary point of contact between clients and PCDC teams.
• Provides regular, detailed reports on status of individual projects and entire portfolio to PCDC leadership and other stakeholders.
• Defines and maintains governance over all projects within the PCDC program.
• Manages contracts and sponsored research agreements
• Provides outreach to funding agencies and foundations to develop future contracts.

What we're looking for

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Advanced degree (e.g. MSc, Ph.D, MBA) preferred

Experience:

• A minimum of three years of  experience in a variety of progressively responsible information technology or scientific research roles required
• Successful experience leading at least one sizable, complex project, preferably serving multiple and/or competing constituencies required

Skills:

• Knowledge of project management concepts and best practices, including resources allocation, budget and schedule management, and reporting conventions to project leadership
• Broad familiarity with numerous information technology disciplines 
• Excellent supervisory and staff management skills
• Strong and effective oral and written communication skills
• Outstanding leadership skills, including the ability to bring differing factions together to reach decisions in a timely manner in large-scale fast-moving projects
• Ability to facilitate technical discussions, as well as the ability to synthesize, summarize and generate insight from large amounts of complex data and information
• Ability to accurately monitor project progress, to keep track of effort and funds expended and committed, and to anticipate at an early stage any need for changes in project direction, scope, objectives, funding, or timeline 
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and independently follow through with detail on general, and sometimes ambiguous, instructions for projects
• Knowledge of medical research (esp. oncology) and clinical data preferred
