What You’ll Do:

The Project Manager will play multiple roles, depending on the requirements of the Client’s project and the needs of the team that is delivering the project. You are expected to don multiple hats - Product Owner, Project Manager, QA, UX Designer, Researcher, and Consultant. 

You  will be responsible for managing the client expectations, leading requirements gathering, prioritizing the product backlog with client input, testing the product, and partnering with the Engineering Manager to deliver on the client engagement. 

You will also be responsible for status reporting, daily standups with the team, managing internal and external dependencies. Overall, you will be responsible for managing Project Success, and hence that means that you will proactively lead the work, anticipate risks, understand and manage dependencies, estimate effort and costs, manage changes proactively, escalate issues ahead of time and drive rigor

 

Responsibilities:

Depending upon the type of client engagement, the expectations from the Project Manager will include:

 

      1. Be absolutely proactive and bring a sense of rigor to the program
      2. Be the voice of reason (within reasonable expectations) for the project and program
      3. Communication- all stakeholders, consistently, ridiculously disciplined - regular status reporting as appropriate to the project/client
      4. Keep everyone informed of what's going on with the project, which means that you will need to stay on top of everything
      5. Timely and proactive status reporting, followed by risk management and action orientedness
      6. Follow-ups and tracking- meticulous, precise, targeted
      7. Setting up the stage for new business and new project delivery - prepare the project charter, identify resources, interact with clients and internal stakeholders, define success criteria and make sure we are tracking to these criteria
      8. Scope: Be the champion for scope management, feature definition, stories etc
      9. Escalate - Don’t be afraid to escalate and/or ask for help - especially internally but also at the client when appropriate
      10. Plan: be the one point of success for creating and managing the plan, aligning all stakeholders to understand and follow the plan and commit to timelines and deliverables
      11. Hold people accountable
      12. Hold retrospectives, regular project and deliverable reviews and drive effectiveness and efficiency
      13. Fostering the product mindset on behalf of clients and evangelize new technology that can be used to build a user centric product that empowers users to do the right job
      14. Owning and maintaining the product backlog, including the creation of product/program visions, requirements documentation, and documenting delivery risks
      15. Writing stories with clearly defined acceptance criteria, Including creating wireframes and making collaborative design decisions with the client
      16. Work closely with the client stakeholders to keep the project roadmap prioritized
      17. Articulating the What and the Why to the Engineering Team so that they have the right level of information to focus on the How
      18. Developing domain expertise, both within the client's unique business and the product category (i.e. marketplace vs TMS)
      19. Striving to reduce waste, whether that be in the product, the SDLC, or both
      20. Evangelize products and product features throughout the development lifecycle
      21. Visiting clients and meeting with users to obtain feedback and product direction

 

  • Project Execution
      1. Engaging with customers to understand key decision points, map out workflows, and identify product features that enable you to become the voice of the customer
      2. Partnering with the Engineering Manager to usher projects through the entire project lifecycle and deliver the project on time and on budget
      3. Leading backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and product demos
      4. Reviewing project deliverables with clients to obtain approval for invoicing
        • Generation of content to be included in client invoices and coordinating with the Office Manager to generate and send out client invoices
      5. Fostering a culture of building, measuring, and learning
        • Identifying product / project specific metrics to measure
        • Develop a shared understanding across the client, stakeholders, users and engineering team
      6. Establishing application KPIs, monitor application usage, and identify / implement strategies that lead to attainment of product goals
      7. Support in the renewal of client engagements 

 

  • Communication
    1. Up & Out: Communicating project status, risks & impediments, and feedback up the management chain and out to client stakeholders and users
      • Provide business and technical understanding to all stakeholders
    2. Across: Communicating with peers and other functional groups across the organization
    3. Down: Communicating news and decision making to the Engineering Team
    4. Making sure that the Engineering Team is communicating with the customer the right amount to maintain velocity on development priorities, i.e. both serving as a buffer and connecting the team with customer feedback/domain knowledge
    5. Being the consummate professional that actively listens to clients and users, providing advice and guidance when appropriate.

 

Required:

  • Project Management Experience: You should have actively managed medium to large projects lasting 6 months or more, that use latest technologies
  • Proactive communicator
  • Project Management rigor: Relentless, disciplined project management, keeping all stakeholders and team members on track through gentle nudges and pushes, and at times with firm direction
  • Workshopping: Proven experience in setting up and running successful workshops with clients and internal stakeholders while driving to successful workshop outcomes
  • Understand dependencies and manage timelines and risks proactively
  • Big Picture, Growth mentality
  • Working with Remote technical team-members
  • Writing user stories
  • Administering a project in JIRA, Rally, Trello, or other project management software
  • Commitment to and hands-on familiarity with SCRUM, Kanban, and/or other agile development methodologies

 

Preferred:

  • Designing wireframes in tools like Balsamiq
  • Messaging critical information to clients and internal teams 
  • Mediating between stakeholders
  • Collaborating with external engineering teams
  • Testing APIs with tools like Postman
  • Experience in Transportation, Logistics, and/or Supply Chain
  • Experience in problem modeling, analysis and solving
  • Working knowledge of tools like Google Analytics and SQL or NoSQL databases
  • Proven ability to manage across multiple product delivery teams
  • Experience envisioning innovative / disruptive products
