Project/Engagement Manager
The project/engagement manager role at DevMynd is all about helping our clients succeed by allowing our product teams do their best work. The role is part project management, part account management, and part consultant. The engagement manager has five primary missions:
- Make sure that there are no surprises for the client on budget, timeline, scope, risks, outages, etc.
- Facilitate the resolution of project risks and issues between the DevMynd team and client team.
- Ensure that alignment around scope is happening from sprint-to-sprint, i.e. are the client's assumptions the same as ours.
- Manage DevMynd’s profitability on the project as part of the total portfolio of projects currently underway at DevMynd.
- Listen for future needs at the client and work with account managers and salespeople to raise awareness of new opportunities.
The engagement manager will work closely with the project leads and should always be aware of project status and direction. They are the “fixer” of the project and step in to have difficult conversations with the client or the DevMynd team if necessary. But above all, they are our team’s advocate with the client.

In this role you will...
- Attend key project meetings such as sprint planning, retrospectives, research presentations, etc. and will occasionally facilitate these if necessary.
- Check-in with the client and project leads each sprint to go over project status, budget, scope, timeline, risks, staffing, team outages, etc.
- Keep an eye on the level of engagement of the client - making sure that they attend meetings and are responding to project team needs.
- Track and manage risks to the project and proactively works to address these, leaning on the DevMynd team or client team as needed.
- Maintain an understanding of overall project progress and ensure that this is visible to the client and put in context of original timeline and budget.
- Manage changes to scope and their impact to timeline and budget - working with project leads to negotiate trade offs with client.
- Coordinate logistics for key project activities such as demonstrations, milestone presentations, site-visits, etc.
- Provide regular updates to client stakeholders in the best format for them to understand progress, risks, changes, and future direction.
- Provide a back-channel for communication to and from the client when some distance is needed from the day-to-day.
Works with DevMynd sales and account teams to ensure that revenue and project costs are appropriate and balanced across the client portfolio - recommending and facilitating changes when needed to maintain profitability.Provides feedback to the heads of our design and development teams on high-level trends in what’s working and what needs improvements.
This role reports directly to the head of business development and sales, currently the CEO.
Requirements
- 5+ years working as a project manager, account manager, or similar role.
- Prior experience in a client-facing role ideally at a professional services firm.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) - we like to describe ourselves as concise, accurate, warm, but direct.
- Proactive and self directed - we don’t micromanage and expect independent and positive movement.
- High degree of self-awareness and empathy - this is a very client facing role and we expect the engagement manager to represent DevMynd well.
- Nice to have: some working knowledge of both human-centered design and agile software development methods.
