Summary

The Senior PMO Manager will work at a client site and lead a team of project management personnel.  The position will act as a project management advisor, mentor and guide to client business units, technology teams and project managers. The individual will work directly with our clients to understand their program/project office needs and translate them into requirements, and subsequently, a functioning Project Management Office (PMO) including the ongoing management of the client’s project portfolio. This individual will also be responsible for ensuring that deliverables meet client (and SDI) standards and expectations.  A successful candidate may work on multiple projects simultaneously and be a team player.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a Project Management Office (PMO) from the ground up
  • Lead and grow a project management organization
  • Facilitate meetings with Subject Matter Experts, client management, project managers, and vendor personnel
  • Able to understand and communicate best practices
  • Participate in business function analysis and process mapping
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a satisfactory client relationship – along with the SDI Account Executive – to successfully grow assigned accounts
  • Oversee the management and coordination of all internal SDI resources, subcontractors, and Third-Party vendors
  • Participate in vendor management efforts and prepare project structure (governance, steering committee, project plans, communications, project organization, etc.)
  • Monitor actual project achievement versus targets and ensure shortfalls are addressed promptly and effectively
  • Maintain project plan(s) and report status
  • Development of effective working relationships with clients to facilitate communication and technology understanding
  • Ensure project delivery and quality of junior SDI resources
  • Responsible for client satisfaction
  • Maintain and expand executive client relationships
  • Identify, interview, and recommend hires needed to staff project(s)
  • Determine training needs for consultants on assigned project(s)

Requirements

  • 15+ years of IT experience, including hands-on management of distributed project teams
  • 5+ years of experience leading large-scale enterprise system implementations, such as customer information, asset management, or enterprise resource planning systems
  • 5+ years of PMO experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree desired)
  • Project Management experience – PMP certification a plus
  • Experience working at a municipality a plus
  • Experience with project implementation utilizing internal and 3rd party resources
  • Excellent written, oral and listening communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills for client support
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to lead, facilitate, and organize various technology projects
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Flexible schedule for off hour responsibilities/emergencies
  • Strong analytic and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong skills in strategic planning for leadership in projects and the project management office
  • A team player with the willingness to assist coworkers on other projects as required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft based applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Project)
  • Exposure to leading a client through prioritizing a portfolio of projects is a plus
  • Experience establishing individual project and over-arching portfolio governance is a plus
  • Knowledge tracking risks on projects
  • Familiarity tracking issues on projects
  • Experience establishing high-level reporting for the portfolio of projects, and detailed reporting for each project is a plus
  • Capability of creating and reviewing project charters for clarity of scope and completeness
  • Understanding of conducting lessons learned for projects
  • Experience tracking financial status of projects
