Job Description

This position is for a Scrum Master in the IT Program and Portfolio Management Office, heading multiple scrum teams to support IT applications. The Scrum Master is responsible for removing impediments that hinder the team from reaching their goals and has a flexible approach that enables the team to rapidly respond to changes. The work will be spread across multiple projects and delivery structured as Scrum Teams that embody agile practices to deliver functionality. This role will work with project managers, development leads, business leads and stakeholders. The position is located in downtown Chicago. This high visibility role is an ideal opportunity for someone with excellent leadership and communication skills.

This role requires oversight of all activities within a sprint, facilitating the team’s daily work and removing obstacles or impediments faced by the team in its work

Scope of Responsibilities / Expectations

  • Collaborate with product owners and other stakeholders to align vision, sprint goals, and expectations.

  • Create overarching delivery timelines, project charters, business cases, communication plans.

  • Plan and facilitate the scrum ceremonies such as Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-up, Sprint Demo and Retrospective

  • Coach/mentor the team members in adopting Agile practices and an Agile mindset, including ownership, self-management and empowerment.

  • Drives activities to achieve measurable outcomes by managing schedule, resource, scope, budget, risk, issue, and dependencies; escalating issues to stakeholders and challenging scope changes

  • Champion continuous improvement activities to drive optimum productivity.

  • Manage, communicate, and remove the obstacles or impediments faced by the team in its work

  • Create a collaborative environment which allows the team and stakeholders to interact closely

  • Collaborates with IT PMO and other scrum masters to optimize scrum practices across MSI IT. Provide coaching to other scrum masters

  • Provides timely updates to the IT PMO and Stakeholders by producing regular status reports and steering governance updates, including but not limited to velocity and business value

Desired Background/Knowledge/Skills

  • Problem Solving skills - ability to perceive and investigate problems, develop alternatives and recommend sound conclusions

  • People skills - a combination of skills including an ability to ask penetrating questions, detect unstated assumptions and resolve conflicts

  • Project management skills – ability to drive & run meetings unaccompanied, create and execute project plans, proactively manage risks/issues, maintain compliance with company project management processes

  • Communication skills - ability to drive productive conversations, singly maintain project documentation, drive follow-up on open actions.

  • Proficient in Atlassian application (Jira and Confluence) as well as basic Google Applications (Sheets, Docs, Slides) 

  • Experience using Agile, Scrum AND Waterfall methodologies on projects, with heavy emphasis on Agile/SCRUM.

  • Any previous Motorola work experience or experience in managing IT projects for a similar industry is preferable

  • Self motivated and able to work on one’s own

  • Very strong team player, able to foster teamwork and a positive working environment to the project team. 

  • People skills to be able to work with different roles and personalities 

  • Ability to plan and organize work

  • Strong aptitude to learn

  • Recognize and deal appropriately with confidential and sensitive information

  • Strong written and oral communications skills, an eye for detail

  • Strong collaboration & active listening skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding, and rapidly changing environment

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to form valuable partnerships and working relationships with key stakeholders.


Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field from an accredited university

  • 7+ years experience with Agile (Scrum).
