Department OverviewDelivering more than 2,500 customer-focused proposals annually, ranging in length from a few pages to multiple volumes, the North America Proposal Center (NAPC) provides proposal management, writing, and multimedia services to Motorola Solutions’ North America Sales teams. We help government, public safety and commercial customers improve their operations by providing solutions and services to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of their workforce.
Job Description
The Strategic Proposal Manager (SPM) serves as the NAPC central point of contact for high value, complex, and strategic responses to customer RFPs. As the proposal development SME they engage NAPC writing, multimedia, and desktop publishing resources as needed and, in collaboration with these resources and the technical proposal team, ensure that RFP responses are responsive to customer requirements, provide a persuasive, winning message, and are presented to the customer in a coherent and compelling package.
Scope Responsibilities/Expectations:
Serves as NAPC central point of contact for complex proposal development.
Independently manages the proposal development process and preparation/delivery of complex/strategic proposals.
Oversees collaborative proposal team. Responsible for aligning proposal messaging with standard and custom writing and multimedia, to communicate the single sales objective and win strategy.
Develops proposal outline, proposal workbook, compliance matrix, templates and documentation required for a compliant response.
Ensures that all required proposal elements are accounted for in the proposal assignment matrix.
Engages appropriate NAPC writing, multimedia, and desktop publishing SMEs on each proposal, and coordinates their efforts with the proposal team.
Schedules and leads KO and regular proposal checkpoints to ensure documentation development multimedia and storyboarding, draft deadlines, working sessions, and reviews.
Leads proposal verbiage reviews. Determines, along with project team leads, appropriate peer/management reviewers and works with project team to ensure that key solution/pricing elements are reviewed.
Uses NAPC best practices and tools to coordinate the proposal development process.
Uses NAPC tools to evaluate proposal readability, customer pain points and goals as represented in customer RFPs, and alignment of RFP response language with customer RFPs. Ensures that standard content documents, where available, are provided to project team.
Reviews text and graphics for structure, consistency, discriminators, & responsiveness to requirements. Ensures that messaging and content reflect the win strategy agreed on by the proposal team.
Understands project risks and their impact on proposal development; uncovers and communicates proposal-specific risks that may impact the response timeline and corrective actions.
As needed, works with third-party vendors to ensure inputs meet customer requirements and conform to proposal process
Ensures that proposal formatting is completed according to best practices, and proposal is produced and delivered according to internal and customer deadlines.
Archives proposals and project files according to established processes and procedures.
Specific Knowledge/Skills:
Bachelors Degree is required. Preferred emphasis in Literature, Communications or similiar degree.
3+ years experience in one of the following: Proposal Management, Technical Writing or Project Management
Previous RFP Proposal Management experience is desired.
Writing specialization/advanced degree recommended.
Professional proposal-related accreditation preferred.
MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; Google Suite; SalesForce; Proposal Development tools experience; SharePoint; and desktop publishing/graphics software.
Develop an in depth knowledge of Motorola Solutions business, its customers, and competitors. Must stay abreast of new products, markets, competitive trends, processes, & tools.
Must understand and communicate value selling and what makes proposals compelling.
Must understand business verticals & available avenues of escalation.
Develop expert-level use of NAPC Proposal Development and Assessment tools along with Word/Google to effectively use them during the proposal development process.
Develop strong knowledge of NAPC content/media development capabilities and engagement processes for communication to Sales.
Develop strong knowledge of SalesWay sales process.
Must be able to quickly adjust to changing set of circumstances & requirements in high-stress environments and adaptively schedule activities as circumstances change
Must be able to manage multiple projects and teams balancing conflicts and interests and to create and sustain team inspiration, energy and focus.
Base Compensation Range is $70,000 to $75,000
