Job Description
What You’ll Do
- Responsible for leading the acquiring, business development and client management efforts for our top partners. Serves as the subject matter expert for assigned portfolio. Ensures execution of projects with department wide impact.
- Maintain and expand relationships within assigned portfolio with partners such as Central Bank, Commerce Bank, First American Payment Systems and Merrick Bank. As part of this effort, ensure consistent implementation of Discover Global Network value-added products and execute on strategic initiatives and marketing programs to support initiatives that broaden the card’s acceptance footprint.
- Identify opportunities to increase card acceptance, maximize transaction volume growth and market-share while working to increase coverage capability ensuring consistent implementation of the MAP (Merchant Acquiring Program) helping to identify and execute strategic initiatives and marketing programs to support endeavors to broaden the U.S. acceptance footprint.
- Lead communication and projects for implementation of annual release management initiatives, operational improvements and enhancements.
- Consult with client-facing teams within Discover and other internal business partners to help support their client needs regarding mobile, digital and contactless payments.
- Serve as an internal resource and subject matter expert on the assigned technology partners and overall digital payments industry.
- Focus on high profile merchants, directly or indirectly, working towards acceptance parity to include the hold out target list, verticals and non-acceptors within Global Acceptance’s acquiring portfolios, and outside of portfolios, maintain current and accessible strategic plans in order for management to analyze.
How You’ll Do It
- Serve as the strategic liaison between Discover and assigned enablement partner(s) by maintaining relationships with decision-makers across all divisions of the assigned partner.
- Partner internally and externally to identify, develop and implement new business opportunities.
- Present and execute marketing and promotional initiatives to increase transactions, grow market-share and improve merchant stated awareness, acceptance and product offerings.
- Develop and Implement operational initiatives and ensure full compliance with Discover Network’s Change Release process, compliance and business practices.
- Leverage industry knowledge and experience to identify industry trends and new product offerings, drive sales, accelerate business results, and build and win new acceptance
- Ensure full acceptance parity with high profile strategic merchants and non-acceptors directly or indirectly within existing acquiring portfolios and outside of portfolios.
- Analyze internal and external market data to assist with the development of the acceptance road map.
- Maintain data integrity in Salesforce system.
- Achieve account objectives by implementing account plans and using account management and tracking.
- Champion new technologies and innovative partnerships to remain competitive in the digital landscape.
- Participate in payment industry associations and focus groups to drive awareness and prepare Discover for potential business impacting changes.
- Be available to travel 40%-50% of the time, including overnight.
Qualifications You’ll Need
The Basics:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field
- 6+ years of experience in Business Development, Sales, Relationship Management, Strategy, or related field
- In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of experience in Business Development, Sales, Relationship Management, Strategy, or related field
Bonus Points If You Have:
- Master's degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field
- Ability to leverage industry and technology knowledge and experience to accelerate business results with senior level management of assigned technology partners
- Exceptional relationship management and consultative sales skills and proven experience building deep and influential relationships with key stake holders, executive level clients and internal business partners
- Broad payments industry experience and knowledgeable about acquiring industry and key business functions: planning, strategy, marketing, finance, operations, etc.
- Proven ability to produce and deliver influential presentations to senior level audiences (internal & external)
- Strong project management, business analysis, strategic thinking, interpersonal and communication skills
- A proven track record of driving acceptance, growth and engagement by developing and executing acquirer focused sales & business development strategies.
