Software Sales Engineer

Morningstar’s Business Development & Sales group is responsible for helping our advisor and institutional clients build their businesses and provide better outcomes for investors. The group is structured primarily along the following client segments: Advisor, Asset Management, Retirement, Redistributor, and Commodities & Energy.
The Role
Software Sales Engineers on the Mid-Market Accounts sales team help generate revenue for Morningstar by facilitating successful trials and demos of our more complex software solutions, in tandem with our Business Development Executives and Client Account Executives. This role is responsible for Morningstar Office and Morningstar Direct. This person will master both the Office and Direct platforms, and be able to align those solutions’ capabilities with client needs in a proactive way. This position requires intermittent travel and is based in our Chicago office.
Responsibilities
- Run successful trials of Morningstar Direct and Morningstar Office with Mid-Market Accounts sales representatives by aligning client needs to product capabilities
- Conduct custom demos of Morningstar Direct and Morningstar Office with Mid-Market Accounts sales representatives
- Progress and advance these opportunities to closure
- Key performance indicators will include, but not be limited to, number of demos and trial conversion rates
- Follow established sales operations processes and guidelines to enable accurate and timely assessments of product sales performance
- Collaborate with Product and Marketing on product roadmap, segment analysis, competitive positioning, and client feedback
- Mentor and coach other sales and customer success team members on key messaging and value proposition for Morningstar Office and Morningstar Direct
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree
- A minimum of two years of financial technology experience, with a confirmed record of client service success
- Experience working directly with Morningstar Office and/or Morningstar Direct highly preferred
- Knowledge of competitive landscape a plus
- Excellent listening, communication, and relationship-building skills
