Company Overview

Zoro's secret recipe to delight our customers has been hugely successful. In the past seven

years, Zoro has grown from a group of 6 people working out of a 2,000 square foot building,

offering fewer than 100,000 products to a group of 300+, offering more than 2,300,000 unique

products.

Position Description

We now want to scale our secret recipe, which is why we need talented folks like you to help us.

Our Solutions Engineers are internal subject matter experts providing engineering direction and

guidance to cross-functional project teams and senior management. They are always

challenging themselves and engineering teams to develop and deliver game-changing digital

solutions for our customers.

Zoro engineering is embarking on an exciting journey to build core engineering competencies

that will enable us to make 100s of targeted releases daily, delighting our customers and giving

them the best experience possible. Our engineering team is composed of a talented group of

front-end, back-end, and full-stack engineers. Our product teams deliver constant improvements

to zoro.com. We use JavaScript, Vue.js, Python, Django, and other technologies. We’re looking

for an experienced Solutions Engineer to provide technical leadership for agile product teams

and Zoro Engineering.

Essential Job Functions

Our Solutions Engineers have the following responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to offer the most appropriate
  • technical solution to customer requirements. Recommend options when a proposed
  • solution is not technically feasible, cost-prohibitive, or impractical in the desired
  • timeframe.
  • Lead major product architectural decisions with a bias for simple, elegant solutions.
  • Acts as a lead engineer providing technical oversight and mentoring to other team
  • members.
  • Clear the road for the team by identifying and removing obstacles.
  • Develop and ensure Zoro's engineering standards and best practices are followed.

Requirements

Zoro is a great place for a technologist to lead, learn and grow, and we’re looking for a Solutions

Engineer who will help them navigate beyond the day-to-day challenges and assist our

developers with code reviews, engineering standards, architectural oversight, and solution

design.

Tech evangelist – You’ve got a strong background in software development and web

technologies. You will be actively involved in the engineering process. We believe that if you

have experience with some of the following eCommerce technologies then you will be able to

effectively lead the efforts to create and maintain Zoro's engineering standards and best

practices.

  • Frontend architecture: Microfrontends, Vue, Angular, React
  • Microservices architecture: Kubernetes, Postman, RabbitMQ, Logstash, Istio, Kong
  • Search technologies: Endeca, GroupBy, Bloomreach, ElasticSearch
  • eCommerce engines: CommerceTools, Hybris, Magento
  • DevOps: Cypress, TestRail, Selenium, Jenkins
  • Cloud technologies: GCP, AWS, Azure, Docker, Serverless applications

You’ll get to design and code along with performing code reviews, providing mentorship,

planning team assignments, and architectural oversight.

Technical mentor – For this particular role, we’re looking for individuals that can not only

contribute at a senior level but can also make the whole team better by mentoring other

engineering team members.

Agility – Lead technical teams on a journey of technical excellence. Our teams use various

Agile methodologies to deliver results iteratively and you will have the tech lead role on agile

product teams. You understand that Agile is a set of principles, not a fixed process, and can

adapt standard methodologies to fit the needs of Zoro engineering.

Experienced technical leader – You’ve done this, and you’ve got this! You’ve established a

strong track record of leading successful engineering product teams and establishing

world-class engineering standards and practices. We believe that such a leader has 10 to 12

years of technical leadership with a progressive scope of responsibilities. But we are willing to

be persuaded to go with fewer years of experience if you have compelling experiences and can

make a strong case for yourself.

Final note:

We share a commitment to our Zoro values – Win & Lose Together (We prefer winning!), Take

Ownership, We Are Transparent, and Aspire to be Customer-Obsessed. Everything we do at

Zoro is centered around delighting our customers. It's a natural extension of our company

culture and how we care for each other. We believe when we act in ways that are consistent

with these values, we can solve any technical challenge the lies ahead of us. As a Zoro

employee, you can expect to work with smart, energetic people, learn something every day, and

be valued for your perspective.

An Insider's view of Zoro

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

The autonomy with which I collaborate with people across our growing company is my favorite aspect of being on the Zoro team. I have the trust and freedom to solve fun problems daily with experts in engineering, design, supply chain, marketing, architecture, and dozens more. The bonus is having the privilege to be my true self in every interaction.

Geremy

Sr. Manager, Project Management

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

I was given the opportunity to broaden my experience by moving into the Finance org. With this move, I have gained a new perspective, which has resulted in an evolving approach to solve business problems. I attribute much of my success and growth to my team, peers, and leadership, and am thankful for their continued support and mentorship.

Nimit

Sr. Manager, Finance

What does your typical day look like?

As a Financial Analyst with Zoro’s Finance team, my typical day starts with generating daily sales reports and sending it over to our headquarters. Then, I talk to business unit owners and gather information that would impact our financials. Zoro has an encouraging collaborative environment…everyone is easily approachable!
