Northern Trust Shared Services Technology team is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join the Transaction Processing development team. We are seeking a senior solutions consultant who will be responsible for large transformational solution architecture and be a key contributor to Transaction Processing's technical roadmap and strategy that meets client and corporate goals.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Translate key transformational business initiatives into appropriate IT solutions.
  • Create and maintain key technical roadmaps and technical strategies, aligned with specific business unit's key initiatives.
  • Provide key platform analysis and viability assessments.
  • Serve as objective escalation point for conflicts during the development process (between business and development).
  • Help ensure that the integrity of solutions are maintained throughout delivery for the purpose of realization of the desired business outcome.
  • Assist the Engagement Manager in consulting and planning current and future capital investments.
  • Provide new business and acquisition consulting when needed.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Take a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Ability to work independently; receives minimal guidance.
  • Exercise judgment and decision making based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.
  • Uses expertise to provide guidance to others as a project manager or consultant.
  • Obtain a highly detailed understanding of the applications for which the role is responsible with a goal of acting as a technical expert when interfacing with internal and external teams and senior management.
  • Provide technical expertise including training, leadership and guidance to other applications or infrastructure architecture staff, ensuring secure coding and robust architecture guidelines are met.
  • Work closely with architects and other enterprise stakeholders to ensure solution alignment with best enterprise practices.
  • Develop technical specifications and guide development for application's business initiatives, technology changes and migrations.
  • Evaluate and select from existing and emerging technologies those options best fitting business and enterprise needs.
  • Thoroughly understand decision process of technology choice, such as capacities, response time, data interfacing, client server communication, industry standard technologies and new industry trends.
  • Ability to lead projects and have accountability for on-going activities or objectives.
  • Engage in high level break/fix support during disaster recovery scenarios and assist with production issues when higher level analysis is required.

Experience:

  • Seasoned experience in the technology and financial services industry.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or CFP, CIMA, CFA certification or an equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
  • Excellent consultative and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with internal and external client, business partner, and IT staff and management.
  • Programming analysis and design expertise with trading applications and knowledge of Capital Markets related acumen and required capabilities is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills:

    • Creative and analytical thinker with strong knowledge of a specific product, function or client segment.
    • Experience in functional and technical architectural trade-off analysis.
    • Broad knowledge of the larger business and operational relationships as well as current and contemporary technology architectures, platform paradigms and integration strategies.
    • Broad knowledge of trends in the related industry with regard to established and emerging solution vendors and service providers, third parties and key influencers.
    • Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines.
    • Applies best practices and how own area integrates with others.
    • Is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
    • Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus and able to effectively communicate in various instances.
