Job Title: Senior Data Specialist, Level II (multiple positions)
Location:Chicago, IL
Job Duties:

  • Track, evaluate, and determine the resolution approach for complex data issues that escalate from the Level I teams (Product Support, Client Service Consultant) (18%).
  • Demonstrate a high sense of ownership of the issues in the data and data products ticket queue to be responsive and provide timely updates, follow-up, expedition, and resolution (18%).
  • Prioritize issues properly by severity and impact (2%).
  • Partner with Client Service, Product, and Sales team to ensure issue management processes are followed (3%).
  • Improve knowledge enhancement and data quality process between internal teams (data, data products and service) (5%).
  • Continuously evaluate procedures, create and enhance analytical tools, and implement process improvement projects (5%).
  • Act as an expert regarding investment data points and calculations, answering questions and escalations from data team (10%).
  • Support CSM and Level client support team on clients' call request, understand clients' pain points and present solutions/processes/methodologies (15%). Keep up to date on current and new financial regulations (3%).
  • Drive process improvement by applying LEAN Six Sigma tools and implementing process automation (5%).
  • Utilize meta data to identify trends within large volumes of data cases and propose solutions to mitigate those trends (5%).
  • Champion cross-team projects to implement approved solutions (4%). Understand roles, responsibilities, and expertise of internal stakeholders to expedite issue resolution (7%).


Stakeholders include all Morningstar employees whose expertise may be relevant to the resolution of a data query.

Job Requirements:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related engineering field and 2 years of related data specialist experience in Customer Support Representative, Associate Product Manager, or a related position.
This position also requires

  • 2 years of experience with LEAN Six Sigma;
  • 2 years of experience with SQL, Python, Machine Learning
  • 2 years of experience with the financial industry;
  • 2 years of experience withdatabase tools and data collection processes;
  • 2 years of experience with related work of custom support or business analysis; and 2 years of experience with collaboration from multiple cultures.
