The Compute Services Team is seeking a forward-thinking Senior Operating Systems Engineer to join The Hartford. The team is responsible for end-to-end service management, including engineering, deployment, operations, and governance of the server environment across The Hartford's multi-cloud environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a collaborative team with a unified goal of enhancing core services using both private and public cloud capabilities.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain Enterprise Server Solutions that support the entirety of The Hartford’s multi-cloud environment
  • Participate in the development and technical deployment of Cyber, Disaster Recovery, Operational Recovery capabilities to support application teams and enterprise initiatives
  • Support the migration of Compute Solutions to various private and public cloud offerings in support of a large-scale data center transformation effort
  • Engineer capabilities across various platforms and products including ESX, VMware, Unix, Windows, AWS, GCP, and more
  • Participate in all aspects of service ownership including architecture, design, migration, deployment, runtime support, audit activities, and financial stewardship
  • Design and implement configuration drift automation and assistance with governance reporting and drift remediation
  • Collaborate and consult with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of the server environment by supporting new requirements, design challenges, and functionality configurations
  • Provide operational and technical support to end-users with an emphasis on stability and operational excellence

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in designing, engineering, and supporting large scale Compute/Server environments and systems.
  • Basic Unix server administration, scripting, network and firewall concepts is required
  • Working knowledge of modern DevOps and Infrastructure deployment concepts including using toolsets such as GitHub, Ansible, and Terraform are required
  • Strong knowledge of Operating Systems like Windows and Linux is preferred
  • Experience with AWS EC2, AWS DRS, RedHat Linux, Ansible Automation, and ESX is a plus
  • Familiarly with Highly Available infrastructure design, disaster recovery, and cyber recovery is preferred
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented with the ability to work in a team environment and independently
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strategic thinking skills.  Ability to provide options and assess solutions, looking at the business holistically
  • Understanding of current and emerging IT products, services, processes, and methodologies

Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$115,760 - $173,640
