Job Overview:

As a Senior Systems Engineer at Cambium Learning, you'll leverage your extensive expertise to embrace complex challenges in system and infrastructure management. Your role will involve leading the charge on system enhancements, refining monitoring solutions, collaborating closely with development teams, optimizing automation processes, mentoring junior colleagues, contributing to capacity planning efforts, evaluating emerging technologies, and participating in on-call rotations.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Head the design and implementation of complex, high-availability systems spanning colocation data centers and cloud environments.
  • Drive automation initiatives to streamline deployment, configuration, and maintenance processes.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to resolve escalated issues and ensure timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with leadership and product managers to define technical requirements and roadmap.
  • Conduct performance analysis and optimization to maximize system efficiency and reliability.
  • Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers to foster their professional growth.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive continuous improvement.
  • Understand the impact of your work on internal and external customers, prioritizing tasks to minimize downtime.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support and incident response.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of experience in system engineering or related roles, with a track record in designing and implementing enterprise-level solutions.
  • Expertise in designing and managing highly available and fault-tolerant systems.
  • Proficiency in Linux and Windows server administration.
  • Expertise in virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Exceptional knowledge of containerization technologies and microservices architecture.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages for automation and configuration management.
  • Proven skills in automation and orchestration tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.
  • Excellent understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Expertise in security best practices and experience implementing security controls.
  • Good project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities, with a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and staying up-to-date with emerging technologies.
