Job Description

Position Overview

As the Senior Vice President of Electrical Engineering, you will be responsible for providing the overall technical guidance to a growing electrical engineering team, while managing a high volume of energy project design and commissioning in the US. The Senior Vice President of Electrical Engineering will report to the Executive Vice President of Engineering & Technology and will lead and supervise the Electrical Engineering Teams (Generation/Substation, Transmission, HVDC and SCADA).

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the work strategy for the Electrical Engineering Teams

  • Work cross-functionally internally to support both development and construction of new electrical generation and transmission projects.

  • Manage the grow of the Electrical Engineering Teams and support onboarding of engineers: including development, execution of training and mentorship.

  • Collaborate and communicate with senior leaders and peers within Engineering teams.

  • Identify and delegate responsibilities for engineers across Renewables, Transmission, HVDC, and SCADA.

  • Guide teams in decision-making for issues involving substation protection and control and electrical safety.

  • Coordinate with the Electrical Interconnection and Operations Electrical Engineering teams.

  • Support employee development, including bi-annual reviews and setting expectations for growth.

  • Oversee budgeting and future project planning.

  • Spearhead long-term action items and projects to improve reliability or efficiency of electrical systems.

  • Support project and construction managers on new project commissioning and turnover.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering

  • 15+ years of experience in the electrical engineering/construction field

  • Experience working on projects that have been constructed and dealing with both design and construction related engineering issues.

  • Knowledge of three-phase power systems, high voltage electrical equipment & relay protection

  • Strong working knowledge of NESC and ANSI/IEEE standards and codes

  • Strong project management skills 

  • Ability to travel (up to 10%)

  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree and Professional Engineering license in Electrical Engineering

  • 10+ years’ experience managing and building teams of cross functional electrical engineers.

  • Experience with codes and standards required and involvement with IEEE or other standards agencies.

  • Knowledge of renewable generation systems (wind turbine, solar panels, battery storage) and their controls.

  • Strong written communication skills required.

  • Practical or field experience in electrical substation reliability and maintenance.
