The Opportunity 

We are looking for a Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our Corporate Actuarial team, taking on new research initiatives as well as various reserving and reinsurance analyses. The Corporate Senior Actuarial Analyst leverages statistical modeling, both traditional and innovative reserving methodologies and creative problem solving to understand company performance metrics and assist in financial reporting. In addition, this role will work directly with our reinsurance team to gather and analyze data that informs reinsurance treaty performance and contributes valuable insights to Root’s reinsurance strategy as we continue to grow as a company.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $104,000 (Bonus and LTI Eligible)

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Execute reinsurance initiatives, including but not limited to, aggregation of internal data for treaty renewal submissions, analysis of treaty performance and reinsurance market trends, and further the automation of net of reinsurance calculations for financial reporting
  • Support month-end reserving processes
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in Claims, Pricing, and State Management to understand the impact of internal and external factors on reserves, loss development patterns, and trends.​
  • Leverage statistical and projection models to further develop Root’s reserve methodology
  • Research loss performance of Root’s book of business at a more granular, detailed level 
  • Evaluate and analyze market data to make competitive strategic decisions
  • Contribute to additional strategic initiatives as needed

What You Will Need to Succeed

  • 3+ years of actuarial experience in the P&C insurance industry, preferably with a focus on personal auto insurance
  • Intermediate experience with R, Tableau
  • Demonstrable experience in SQL
  • 3+ CAS/SOA exams
  • Reserving and/or reinsurance experience a plus
  • Demonstrable experience in data analysis, financial reporting and/or predictive modeling
  • A strong foundation in statistical analysis, ideally with exposure to non-traditional or machine learning-driven reserving models
