We have a unique opportunity in the Legal, U.S. Businesses team, to be the strategic legal partner to CNA's Risk Control and International Solutions. The role will assume responsibility for the full range of legal, regulatory and transactional services for these units and collaborate with business leaders to manage complex legal issues, which require considerable legal judgment, experience and independent reasoning.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
CNA Risk Control: professionals drive a program of systematic, sustainable risk control solutions designed to increase productivity and protectour clients'bottom line. Our experienced Risk Control consultants have in-depth knowledge and understanding of local laws, regulations and issues. With multinational Risk Control representation, CNA has the capability to provide services that grow to adapt to customers' needs as they expand.
- As a strategic legal advisor to a global team of property and casualty Risk Control professionals, the role will advise on CNA Risk Control's delivery model and revenue treatment, marketing, thought leadership, internal procedure documents, regulatory compliance, litigation/subpoenas, privacy, intellectual property and IoT/technology.
- The role will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating various legal agreements, including vendor, fee for service, confidentiality/non-disclosure, and event/speaking agreements, as well as partner with Risk Control professionals to create protocols and efficiencies on commonly requested legal deliverables.
- The role will maintain knowledge with respect to legislative, regulatory and compliance developments and proactively ensure compliance with state/local/federal requirements that may impact risk control, including anti-rebating, state insurance law premium definitions, workers' compensation loss control and boiler/pressure vessel inspection requirements.
CNA's International Solutions: provides tailored solutions to clients with multinational exposures. CNA's worldwide network, broad product array, customer-focused underwriting and superior service, in tandem with our ability to navigate evolving country-specific regulations and compliance issues, allow us to create innovative solutions for companies with international risk exposures.
- The role will act as a strategic partner to our International Solutions unit providing proactive legal solutions and timely responses on multinational regulatory compliance issues and local placement issues by collaborating with business and legal colleagues, and conducting necessary research and analysis.
- Support US and UK corporate secretary teams on legal entity management, licensing/ reinsurance registrations and corporate governance related issues.
- Draft/review insurance policy wordings and conditional renewal/non-renewal letters.
The role will also:
- Support International Solutions and Risk Control's initiatives and operational improvement/procedural changes by ensuring compliance with local, state, federal regulations.
- Partner with International Solutions and Risk Control leaders on the development and review of external facing communication materials, marketing collateral, presentations, and training materials.
- Maintain up-to-date on commercial insurance and business specific legislative and regulatory developments and facilitate business partner learning by developing and delivering training.
- Work on special projects as needed and may mentor other team members.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Senior level, advanced knowledge of local laws, regulations and issues involving risk control solutions and delivery model.
- Advanced knowledge of issues involving risk control and loss control regulatory compliance, multinational controlled master programs, local placements and fronted insurance policy transactions, reinsurance, sanctions and data privacy.
- Proven ability to take a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives in order to achieve strategic business results.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with and influence a broad spectrum of internal and external constituents.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills and ability to manage ambiguous situations.
- A high proficiency in time management, leadership, influence, and project management skills.
- A proven track record of results achievement, collaboration, teamwork and negotiation skills.
- Experience working as a trusted advisor with internal business clients and sophisticated leadership team.
- The ability to build consensus and influence internal and external relationships in a matrixed environment.
- A demonstrated ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within the scope of responsibility.
Education & Experience
- Juris Doctor and Bar admission to the bar of at least one state.
- A minimum of ten years of relevant legal experience with a proven track record of results.
- Prior in-house experience at a global insurance carrier supporting Risk Control and Multinational Business, is preferred.

I n certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia , California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland , New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $87,000 to $178,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
